The Buccaneers continued their onslaught on the free agent market, as they try to rebuild an offensive line taken apart piece by piece. The latest addition was Packers free agent offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith, the team announced Friday afternoon. While he won't have to worry about being stomped by Ndamukong Suh twice a year, he...

I have to believe they have Tretter penciled in as a starter and are moving Barclay inside to back up both guard positions. Thanks for your contributions EDS - you sure were a godsend making up for the colossal screw up that was the Wells/Saturday situation.

Well damn, bettin' Aaron rodgers isn't real happy about now.

4 starting Centers in 4 years.

Will tretter step in or will there be a big shuffle in traing camp?

Whatever happens i hope they get it sorted out real early so the line can work together all through TC and Pre-season.

So much for my hope of continuity on the OL.[duh]

I'm confident in J.C. Tretter.

I'm more worried about the tackle spot. I like the depth we have but we have to see if any of them can really contribute a full season. People liked Bakhtiari but he really didn't do much last year. And does Bulaga stay on the left or do we move him back to the right? What about Sherrod?

Wait. Saturday? Who was that? Oh yeah. You mean the Free Agent that Ted Thompson signed to win the Super Bowl with? Why didn't we win that year? We had a Free Agent signing... That's all it takes, right? :-k

The Packers already stated publicly that they wanted someone bigger in there. EDS proved he could get it done, but he's nothing special.

Get on it, Ted.

Not disappointed. EDS was serviceable but with Lacy in the backfield. We need a C that can run block better, and who is bigger. EDS was about maxed when he added lbs to get to just over 300.

It's possible EDS only SEEMED good because Saturday was so bad and because our offensive tackles were so bad. Tretter better be good, because it's looking like he's the man. Any word on how much the Tampa offer was that Ted refused to beat?

The Packers did run more gap-scheme blocking last season, probably to adapt to Eddie Lacy's style. I believe EDS is a zone center, so I don't think losing him is a major blow. I also like the idea of J.C. Tretter at center.

Not entirely thrilled with this mostly due to the whole continuity thing and not because EDS is a rare commodity.

I'm all for continuity as well but not at the cost of getting better.

If Bakhtari shows he's made that 2nd year jump HE becomes a more valuable piece AND Bulaga is a better RT than anyone else on the OL. If Bulaga shows he's the better LT than how can you not make that change?

The wildcard right now is Tretter but they obviously feel he can play or they would have made a stronger move to sign EDS.

Personnel changes all the time. As long as it's BEFORE the season allowing for whatever combination earns the spots to have the pre-season to work together I don't see it as a problem. All indications were the whole Chinese fire drill last year was taking hold when Bulaga went down.

An OL can gain the continuity it needs when they start in the spring and don't play a game that counts until September. What sucks is when the season is on and this guy goes down and that guy goes down and people get moved around that continuity takes a hit.
The Bears found two better players and they were rookies but their Oline was way more better than the previous year. That's how I look at our chances. Bakhitari being better and Bulaga back=better Oline play overall. Wherever they end up playing.

And if Sherrod shows up with what they thought he could be all the better. All that's in the mix here tells me whatever five guys line up this year it's got a real good chance of being quite a bit better than last year.

See you are confusing the fans desire for taking a tier 1 FA which Ted doesn't do for the tier 3 FAs that he loves to grab. Very few people thought Saturday was as good as he had been when he played for Indy. Most people hoped he hadn't lost it all. He had. They hoped if he played with a top level QB that he would get back some of his mojo. He didn't.

Saturday is the kind of FA most fans are bitching about. But because Ted did nothing early, Saturday was all that was left on the dung heap.

As for EDS, I appreciate his effort but he was only a stop gap. Tretter will hopefully be the answer. When they drafted him my reaction was, "WHAT"?? The I realized they wold slide him inside to the C. I half expected him to grab the job in his second season. I would feel better about it if he had a full year under his belt and not missed so much time due to injury.

J. C. Tretter 6-1 310lbs

Evan Dietrich-Smith 6-2 308lbs

Packers really got larger at C.

Throw that reasoning right out the door.

I guess this one is all about the money.

Teds got a plan, hopefully Aaron Rodgers doesn't pay if it backfires.

Tretter is 6'4" He came out of college 15lbs heavier than DSmith. DSmith had to put on weight to get to 308. Only need to look at the two to see the difference, Tretter has room on his frame for more weight, EDS was maxed out already.

My last post.

I just filled the tub with hot water. I am about to slide in the tub. Slice both wrists horizontally. Close my eyes, and pray to God for forgiveness.

It is the end of the world as I know it.

Nerdman actually made sense.
