The surprise would be if he makes it to the practice squad. Another 7th round dud.

The closest mall is an hour and a half away. There are "a couple" of stoplights, Jeff Janis confirms.

Quaint ma-and-pa stores once dotted this town, too. But only a few of those are hanging on.

Tawas City, Mich., is a (very) small tourist town of about 2,000 on Lake Huron. It has produced one — count 'em — one Division I player, 30 years ago. When Janis visited his old football coach's class, seventh-grade students crowded him for autographs.

So you can imagine the scene back home when Janis was drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 236th overall pick. A private viewing party of 100-plus packed into the bar "Wingin' It" to witness history.

Said Janis, "It's pretty crazy now."

This is where you'll find the third of Green Bay's three wide receivers drafted last weekend. Janis' path to the NFL is one that includes 6 a.m. weightlifting sessions, a broken finger, a late growth spurt and, of course, scorching speed. To this point, he's been the big fish in the small pond — a physical abnormality, dominant.

Starting this weekend at the Packers' rookie camp, the small-town kid tries to make it.

"He's kind of turned into this celebrity in this small town of Tawas," said Janis' high school coach, Tim Webb. "I don't think people know how rare this is, how incredible this is."

If he does go to the taxi squad he won't be there long before he gets plucked by another team.

If this guy pans out at all during TC and preseason and shows he belongs...he'll be #6 on the depth chart. Jared Abbrederis with his crisp and smooth route running...will be #5. Let that sink in for a minute.

If he can return punts, he will make the team just for that.

I bet Abbrederis will enjoy having a pin point passer throwing him the ball instead of being hung out to dry to the degree of suck that is Wisconsin quarterbacking. Abbrederis should be in serious consideration for our punt returning duties.

Don't tell steveishere that Stave sucked... it will invalidate a previous argument of his. [laughing]

What could Abbrederis do with a real QB? I'm more excited about Abbrederis than I am Adams.

I don't see how when I said Stave wasn't a good QB.

Oh, how you tried avoiding answering that former query. You gave it a lukewarm response nowhere near as dogmatic as the one here that I just had to highlight A) Because it was true B) Because it was fun to point out how you just couldn't say it to me even though I knew you felt it.

I avoided answering it because it wasn't relevant to the discussion. It makes no difference to me or what I was trying to say earlier whether anyone thinks Stave was good or bad. I said Indiana had average QB play and there was as big of a difference between Carr and Indiana QBs as there was between Indiana QBs and Stave. Not sure it gets a heck of a lot more clear than that.

Ummm...I showed you where "Wisconsin" quarterbacking and "Indiana" quarterbacking appeared on a completion percentage list. Indiana was well below Wisconsin. If you would've only admitted Stave sucked, you would've been admitting that Indiana's QB play sucked, too. Yet, we couldn't get that horse to drink .[grin1]

The problem is that your premise that equal completion % = equal qb play is just moronic and simple (unless you think Chad Pennington was the best NFL QB of all time). The fact is that I don't think you are really that dense so you are either just trolling or you simply cannot come up with anything else to make that point so you are clinging to it with desperation.

I hope your right the kids got freakish athletic ability but poor actual receiving skills, from what I've read. Would be nice to keep him on the roster long enough for the coaches to do their thing.
