Barclay's come along nicely, but I hope we never need him.

I think if Sherrod is healthy Barclay is gone

Barclay is our top back up at both G positions and RT. Sherrod is really just a LT right now. I don't really see any reason both players wouldn't make the team.

Yeah, Barclay is the top backup at this point, what Sherrod does or doesn't do likely has no effect on Barclay making the team. Only way Barclay gets cut is if a few of the unknown players on the OL really outperform him, which would be very surprising.

Why?!? ... I'm very confused by that comment... NFL teams normally keep 8 OL (AT LEAST!!!... some keep 10)...

Assuming Tretter and Linsley are kept as the top two centers and Bulaga, Sitton, Lang, Bakhtiari are locked in as starters... that still leaves two spots (at least)...

If Sherrod is fully healthy, he SHOULD be the top pass blocker of the rest and teams really want the best pass blockers.

Barcaly might be the most vesatile of the non-starters and for back-ups that's one of the most important things. Barcaly has played RT, needs some help in pass protection, but also has practice at Center and he might be the #1 back-up at both OG spots.

Unless one of the UDFA suprises, or one of these guys is injured, I'd be surprise both don't make it.

I still like Sherrod to beat out Bakthiari.

that would be interesting ... I think I read that bakthiari put on a little muscle this offseason - wonder how bulaga is doing after his surgery.

Seems like a number of people think Sherrod will come back and beat out Bakhtiari... though I don't quite understand why. Yes Sherrod has potential, but Bakhtiari was a rookie... and has a ton of potetial as well. And a number of players take a good step up in their first full offseason going into their second year.

Hopefully Sherrod will be fully healthy and ready to go, just in case we need Sherrod and Bakhtiari.

I should have clarified. If Sherrod makes the team it will be as a starter. Bakhtiari was originally drafted to back up multiple positions on the line, and I think if Sherrod makes it, Bakhtiari is a much better swing man than Barclay.

The guy has been trained all over the line. He's not the best pass protector, but he is pretty solid in the run game. Curious if how close he is to hitting his ceiling. In any case, he is a lock.

I love this time of year. Debates about OL "potential".

I like Barclay ... as a backup.
I like Bahktiari ... as a backup.
I like Bulaga .. as a backup.
Even though the last two are (probably) going to be starters, I think all three have shown enough to be considered ... quality backups. I've seen enough of all three that I believe their "potential" isn't enough to make them to be the quality of starter I want. Unless you will be satisfied with Daryn Colledge level play, you should want more than any of these three.

IMO.

Sherrod, Tretter, Linsley -- until the pads come on and the game starts, they still have the possibility of being starters, but only the possibility.

Best case scenario given the current roster is going to be Sherrod beating out Barclay, Sitton the stud staying healthy, Tretter showing himself better than Dietrich-Smith, Lang being at his serviceable best, and Bulaga being at his serviceable best.

Another year of 40+ sacks.

Ooh-rah.

And that is solely because Aaron Rodgers does not know when to throw it away. He holds the ball far too long. The 3 second drill they practiced last year was completely disregarded by him. You can't expect an OL to hold the fort for 5+ seconds. You have 3 seconds, you throw the ball or toss it out of bounds.

What's wrong with Bulaga, other than the occasional season ending injury?

He played badly in a game that one time therefore he's not very good.

There is a trade off. If you would have him throw the ball away, he wouldn't extend as many plays or scramble for big gains. The yards he picks up holding the ball too long are much more than the sack yards lost. That isn't even including the passes after he evades tacklers.

Take your pick. Less or more. Less sacks, less scrambles and less extended plays or more sacks, more scrambles and more extended plays.

If you want him to throw it away because he will get hit and injured, he would have to throw it away even earlier to avoide contact.
