Examining the Green Bay Packers' roster:

Quarterbacks (3)

Aaron Rodgers
Matt Flynn
Scott Tolzien

The Packers have not kept three quarterbacks on their opening-day roster since 2008 but might be inclined to do so this season in order to avoid a situation like last year, when Rodgers broke his collarbone. Coach Mike McCarthy is high on Tolzien, who made two starts last season, but Flynn has proved he can win as a backup in Green Bay.

Running backs (4)

Eddie Lacy
James Starks
DuJuan Harris
John Kuhn

The return of Harris, who missed all of last season because of a knee injury, gives the Packers insurance behind Lacy and Starks.

Predicting the roster this year might get very very interesting.

some interesting choices. There will defiantly be some hard calls made.

Looking at Rob's roster:

I know GB struggled when Aaron went down but 3 QBs is a luxury. Even though everyone loves Tolzien I don't see him on the 53 man roster.

With Franklin gone I don't see them trying to keep more than 4.

Assuming everyone plays to their abilities Janis is the bubble boy big time. It takes a lot to keep 6 WRs. Doing so could leave them short at another position and there is little guarantee of activating the 5th or 6th WR.

It is interesting that Rob feels Taylor will still make the team and Lyerla will not.

Will Sherrod’s injury and salary be his undoing? Inquiring minds want to know.

Is Guion fighting the OLBers like Palmer for a spot on the team more so than other DL? Time will tell. Having Peppers and Neal line up as OLB helps Guion’s chances and hurts the other linebackers.

The easiest choices for the team are probably in the defensive backfield.

I know it has been said many times that Goode is going to be the LS. I am fairly sure that is the case. That said I can still wish someone like Linsley was able to steal the job away and free up one extra position for the team. Who knows if he was able to do so perhaps that would give Tolzien a better chance to remain on the roster.

Yeah that's another reason I posted, other than I thought it was a pretty interesting subject is on offense he makes some of the same interesting calls. But a number of different ones on defense.

Most interesting on his list is the LB.... where he only has 3 ILBers unless you count rookie Bradford who the coaches said will be played at OLB (though rumor has it, he might be moved to ILB at a later time). I had Barrington as the 4th ILB

Also Neal listed at OLB with 7 others on the DL... when Packers might be counting him as a DL. (or counting him and Peppers as half and half of each, which is how they have them listed on Packers.com).

I agree, I think it's hard to keep 3 QBs... though Tolzien does have a lot of potential and I do think it's possible he could past Flynn... either way I think there will be only two kept and maybe a 3rd on the practice squad.

I don't know if he'll be ready as a rookie, but I like RB Rajion Neal's potential and was surprised he wasn't drafted... I think his OL got a lot of credit which not of all it was them... I think RB Neal could be like another Starks... though it might take him more time to get there, and not be ready right away as a rookie.

I think they'll keep 6... lot of talent at WR... and based on media reports it sounded like Janis was looking great on the outside and maybe looking better (in limited media time) better than the other rookie WRs. Sounded like Adams was having problems with drops, and Abbrederis looked natural in the slot. Plus you got a couple of second year guys who want spots as well... I think he'll be an interesting show down and there will be more good talent than there will be roster spots.

That is one of the same ones I made, that I thought most people would disagree with. There are certain guys, that just have a habit of sticking around mainly for their Special Teams and skills to be versatile and good at everything, great at nothing. Guys like Taylor, Bush, Kuhn, etc... I think teams value guys like that more than fans do... also you might be able to Lyerla to the practice squad, if he doesn't clearly show his potential enough for a team to want him more than they did as an undrafted guy.

I don't think salary will come into play... from the sounds of it, Sherrod looks great in shorts... if he can handle the physialiness then he might be the Packers in the top 3 pass blocker at OT they have and sticks around and maybe even fights for a starting role (hey due to injuries Barclay was a starter, so it's possible).

It depends on how they're counting Neal and Peppers... on Packers.com Neal is listed as a DE/LB and Peppers a LB/DE... so that's how I'd take it.

Yeah other than the last couple of spot... would you rather have CB Goodson or S Banjo... in the end I went Banjo because he was one o the top ST tacklers last year. You have that choice because Hyde can go either way. Also because no one is talking about Goodson so I don't have a clue about him other than the highlights.

All I've got to say to that... is it seems like all teams have a spot saved for LS... if they thought they could get away without one, I would think a couple of the head coaches would try it. But I think the problem is, what if that player becomes you starting ___ on offense and gets injured then you have two holes two fill and LS is so specialized that it can be hard to fine a good replacement.

buckeyepackfan (24-Feb) : Packers receive 4 comp picks for 2018. 4th, 2-5ths, 6th
Smokey (23-Feb) : Peters to the Rams
Smokey (23-Feb) : and another player is lost to another team. Deja Vu again !
Nonstopdrivel (22-Feb) : should have done*
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Hi 😊😉
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : I guess I should have did a refresh when I walked away from the computer.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : Peters is 25 with one year left on his contract at just over $3M
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Mel Kiper sticks with Marcus Davenport to GB in 2nd mock
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : As for Marcus Peters, how old is he an what's his contract years left?
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Packers got tired of Sitton's antics.
Zero2Cool (21-Feb) : Sitton was released not because of play or salary, but personality. He will not be re-signed.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : If we are planning on possibly cutting Cobb I can see the 2nd round pick. A second round pick for Peters is a pretty good deal.
Smokey (21-Feb) : I'd offer Cobb + a 3rd round pick + a 6th round pick in 2019 for the CB Peters from KC.
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : I guess that is a highter round pick
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : Suggestion was a 2nd round pick. I would want a lower round pick. I think that is too much. A 3rd or 4th seems about right.
Smokey (21-Feb) : Cobb and WHAT PICK ?
TheKanataThrilla (21-Feb) : A suggestion I saw was a trade of Cobb and a Pick for Peters. I think that would be a great move.
Smokey (21-Feb) : Sitton was drafted be GB in 2008, not a young man at this point, but still is a "bear" of a man.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : Sitton? Maybe if the price is right.
Cheesey (21-Feb) : I doubt the Packers would try to resign Sutton. But who knows? If the price is right?
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Bears declining option on Josh Sitton. He'll be Free Agent.
Zero2Cool (20-Feb) : Chiefs CB Marcus Peters trade rumors -- come to Packers!
