I've used ProFootballFocus for statistical analysis and player ratings for a few years now. It appears others are jumping on board as well. Here is an excerpt from Peter King's MMQB from this morning as evidence that others can trust the PFF digits as well.

Over a dozen teams use PFF, that's crazy to even think about.

Cris Collinsworth buys a chunk of Pro Football Focus.

This is an interesting story. From his home in England, Neil Hornsby, one of the biggest football fans on the planet, and his staff at Pro Football Focus have made a business of analyzing the performance of every player on every snap and grading their performances against every other player at the same position. Born in 2006, Pro Football Focus has done such a thorough job that 13 teams have contracts with the company to provide the kind of data on players and formations they can’t get anywhere else.

So this spring, Collinsworth was looking to improve his data collection and signed up for an annual insider’s subscription to PFF. The free part of the site looked real, but he wanted to know more, and so he filled in the email contact form asking for someone to get back to him. Hornsby, with his thick English accent, phoned up. “I thought I’d been scammed,’’ Collinsworth said. “So I figured I would ask him a bunch of questions, you know, to expose him … and after about five minutes I could tell he was absolutely legit, so I just shut up and listened to Neil talk about football at a very high level.”

At first Collinsworth said he wanted to simply get to know more about all 32 teams without having to do the kind of film study and painstaking research that would take a couple of days at least—in his words, “to be in position Monday morning to know what would normally take me till Tuesday night to know.’’ Collinsworth said he was actually thinking of engaging some people to watch NFL tape and grade it for him until he realized PFF already did it, and did it accurately. So last week he reached an agreement with Horsnby to buy a significant stake in the company. Hornsby and his crew of 12 full-time graders continue, and Collinsworth will use his influence to help grow the company and seek out new business for it.

There was one final test for Collinsworth. He and Hornsby separately graded a game. When they compared notes, their grades were very close. “And when we went back over them,’’ Collinsworth said, “I’d say on 50 percent of the discrepancies, they were right and I was wrong.”

The deal came together in a couple of months this summer, culminating last week. “What really impressed me,’’ said Collinsworth, “is the fact that 13 NFL teams have contracted with Pro Football Focus for their data. I mean, I have been around the NFL for over 30 years, I know how hard it is to get behind the wall of those teams. And they’ve got 13 teams to trust their data. That’s huge.”

“What appealed to me was Cris is interested in football for the right reasons—for pure football reasons,” said Hornsby, who has been a guest on my training camp tour for the past several years. “People like Cris want legitimate content. And I think he’ll help us get in front of other people who realize that legitimate content has an important place with the public today.”

Yeah, I have a subscription and really like that site. It's really nice for getting an idea of how other players on other teams do that you don't get a chance to watch. It's not perfect but it's a good way to make comparisons you wouldn't otherwise be able to. Sometimes I don't agree with it but like with anything you have humans evaluating things not everyone will agree (eg: they charged Tramon with allowing like a 40 yard reception vs Baltimore last year that to me looked like he was staying in his zone and passing the wr off to a S because he didn't even try to follow him)

Yes but is it a dozen decent teams or a dozen sucky teams who are too lazy to do their own work?

I'm still a bit surprised Packers have grabbed a number of Jaguar players cut players... and they're made it work... at least 3 in LS Goode (who's been great), WR Boykins and RB Harris, and who knows there might be more that I don't know about.

But yeah it is pretty impressive... also got to wonder if some might be using it with out an official contract? Well maybe not the team but some scouts...

Maybe that's why Jerry Jones and family thinks they're good at pretending to be a decent GM?

DarkaneRules (16h) : Whatever happens, we've got to get Josh move near the LOS where he belongs.
TheKanataThrilla (23h) : Would we consider trying Rollins a S?
gbguy20 (18-Mar) : so what's the deal then, are we to expect to see josh Jones in Morgan Burnetts spot this season? i guess I can't say I'm opposed to the idea.
Smokey (17-Mar) : BG is in no hurry to anounce a new Rodgers deal. Smart !
gbguy20 (17-Mar) : When is Rodgers signing that extension that was supposedly only awaiting Kirk? Typing on a phone makes things tough.
Nonstopdrivel (17-Mar) : That's what I was thinking: I wasn't aware that he was quitting.
Zero2Cool (17-Mar) : Hopefully not for a long time. We need him.
gbguy20 (17-Mar) : when is 12 resigning
Nonstopdrivel (17-Mar) : I have to say I like it, even if it means I have to put up with occasional ads for Maseratis. 😂
Nonstopdrivel (17-Mar) : Interestingly, since I blocked third-party cookies, ads I see tend to relate to the content of the page instead of my most recent Amazon searches.
TheKanataThrilla (17-Mar) : Mathieu to Texans? I thought he wanted to go to a play that was all about winning football games?
hardrocker950 (17-Mar) : Bears already matched
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : Bears will certainly match it though. Maybe restructure after year one?
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : but bears got lots of money, didn't think anyone would make the offer
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : good question
Nonstopdrivel (16-Mar) : Can another team come and big even higher, or is it a one-off thing?
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : Bears WILL match the Kyle Fuller offer, but still, good move.
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : @RapSheet Source: The #Raiders are expected to sign #Colts FA CB Rashaan Melvin. More defensive talent adde
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : Packers sign Bears CB Kyle Fuller to offer sheet
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : Packers have signed TE @TheJimmyGraham. Graham will wear No. 80 for the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : Vikings are finalizing a 1-year deal with Sheldon Richardson,
Nonstopdrivel (16-Mar) : Beast, my five-year-old wants to know that you're the best.
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : Eagles are releasing DL Vinny Curry
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : CB Bashaud Breeland cut his foot in a non-football injury and it got infected, source said. He is now a few months away from being able to pass a physical.
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : @massey_evan Can confirm that the #Packers have been in touch with Tyrann Mathieu.
hardrocker950 (16-Mar) : Good CBs don't come around every day... It shouldn't be a surprise that they get paid well.
DarkaneRules (16-Mar) : These CB contracts were out of control. Maybe there's value in the later rounds of FA
DarkaneRules (16-Mar) : pack runs a tight ship
Cheesey (16-Mar) : Jennings didn’t act like a jerk when he was here. After he left he did.
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : We should bring S Eric Reid, played some LB and is just 26.
Smokey (16-Mar) : OK--> lol
Zero2Cool (16-Mar) : ww = we ? I'm not sure.
Smokey (16-Mar) : Who is ww ?
gbguy20 (16-Mar) : the way greg has acted since he left i can't believe ww ever liked him
