He's my favorite Packer RB and in my top 5 for sure, maybe top 2 favorite Packer players. He and James Jones were the only ex Packers I followed when they left. I'm so glad both came back. Packers fans value loyalty so I think because he wasn't drafted by us and the fact that he did leave knocks him down a few pegs in many fan's eyes

Dude was getting old anyway, glad they brought him back at the end and got him the all time Packers record though.

Green got two years and 11.4 million out of the deal, as well as questioned if he was pretending to be hurt from Texans GM Rich Smith, which from the sounds of it... just blew Green's mind (and maybe pissed him off) on how could they think he was pretending to be hurt... when instead he could be on the football field.

Which always brings me to another thought... why haven't the Texans ever moved on from Rich Smith after a decade? Looking at his decade of drafts, I only really feel 4 things are worth positive notes

  1. DL J.J. Watt (possibly the best defensive player in all of the NFL)

  2. WR DeAndre Hopkins (whom some have called the best WR (or best deep threat) in the NFL but has lacked the QB talent / offensive talent to prove it

  3. 2009 draft with ILB Brian Cushing, OLB Connor Barwin, S Glover Quin and TE/ST James Casey

  4. MAYBE... MAYBE the 2016 draft class... where they needed offensive help (because of their lack of success in drafting and developing their own), and they went out and got a QB in FA, and drafted two of the WRs with the highest ceilings (but also lowest floors), a very good Center who might be a starter from day one and for the next decade, as well as one of the flashest RBs (who's kind of like a WR in the backfield, with great movement but lacks physical play), but all of this could in theory help their passing game... if they can get it all on the same page. Of course, it's been said, paying the FA QB move HUGE $$$$ was a clear sign of the owners doing and may or may not had the head coach approval (but assuming they also had approval from the head coach).

Why would Packer fan have an issue with Green? He was a heck of a player.

He is #1 in yards
#1 in carries
#2 in rushing Tds
With a min of 100 carries he's #4 for rushing average

As a receiving RB he is #1 in yards
#1 in receptions
#2 in receiving Tds

And that for the most part was in only 6 seasons.

He is a member of the Packers Hall of Fame.

He should be in anyone's top 10 list of favorite players. And there are certainly a lot of players to choose from.

I'm just saying that a lot of Packer fans place more stock in home grown talent. Green was not drafted by the Packers and he left to play elsewhere. I recall some people being upset when he came back and when he broke Jim Taylor's record so not everyone thinks as highly of him as you think they should. I have no idea why that would matter but I have no doubts that it does to some.

Again I don't know why but they do.

We go from McCarthy's record to Ahman Green? lol Ahman Green was allowed to test free agency to set his price, something the Packers have done frequently with players closing in on 30 under Ted Thompson. Ahman was offered a really (overpriced) contract and took it. I don't believe any of us faulted him for it at the time, nor should we now. Maybe no one really batted an eye too much because Ryan Grant ripped off three good seasons after Ahman's departure?

Either way, Ahman was appreciated and adored, but when you have Brett Favre and then Aaron Rodgers, it's easy to have a running back not get much attention. If Eddie Lacy didn't have this weight thing going on, we wouldn't be hearing about him either.

I rooted a bit for the Jets that year and I think a lot of people did.

Anyway, back to Ahman, I don't think it's as much that the Packers love homegrown players that much as it is that those elite guys are the type of guys that don't change teams often. Guys like Reggie White and Julius Peppers have been immensely popular. I also don't think there's anyone who thinks less of Jim Taylor because he finished his career with the Saints.

I would LOVE to see what Rodgers could do if he was allowed to call his own plays, like Bart Starr used to do.
I mean, why not do it and see what would happen? Maybe he would do great if given the shot.
