IF he was playing in the AFC, he would be #3 within the AFC. as it is, he sits 8th in the NFC.

Given the statement "run, and stop the run" being the championship motto, does this mean that the balance of power has shifted to the NFC?

It is so very easy to fall in love with a good story. Ahh "The Underdog" It is great theatre.

I have stated and made it clear here, many times. That, I thought it was a colossal mistake to give him a big time contract based on one half... of one season... after being picked up from the garbage pile of NFL players.

(That garbage pile just happens to be the best of the best that ever played the game, that had just never taken the final step, or gone the extra inch to reach the final zenith.)

I looked at Grant as a Gado and I thank God that the Packers hierarchy saw through Gado's 15 minutes of fame.

I really hope that Grant goes on a rampage, proves me wrong. I would love to look in the mirror while shaving every morning and say "RP... You Suck at evaluating N.F.L. Players."

Prove me wrong tomorrow Grant, and I will think about it. Prove me wrong in the snow of December and I will purchase your jersey.

But that's not the championship motto. It's just something that John Madden said about 20 years ago, and for some reason he's never stopped saying it. A much more accurate motto nowadays would be "Pass, and stop the pass."

When Ted Thompson went trash-picking, he did what I do (except he doesn't have to sneak out of the house to do it--if my wife ever found out that I brought something home from a trash pile, she'd ring my friggin' neck  )

He went to a good neighborhood. When I hop in the pick-up, I don't head to Mogadishu to look for discarded items. Grant was never given a chance in NY. Look at Wynn. He might be an all-pro caliber running back, there is some evidence that we have some real potential riding the pine.

Not my point though. On face value, it would have been nice to take a wait-and-see approach with Ryan Grant during the off-season. I wasn't posting here, so I never got in the argument with you about this. Since I rarely argue with you anyway, as most of the time you make sense ( ), I'll just re-state my position held over at packerchatters, which, of course, is the right one. :thumbleft:

The big winner in the Favre fiasco was Ryan Grant's agent. Had it not been for the acute crotch-sniffing by the media and fanbase, Ted Thompson would have been in a much stronger position to hang tough with Ryan Grant. If the penalty that Ted Thompson had to pay was the cave-in job that occurred as a result of the crotch sniffers, coupled with Tightwad Ted won't delve in the free agent market devotees...well, frankly, he extricated a pretty good deal under the circumstances.

Ryan Grant had him over the barrel. As much as I didn't like the fact that Ryan did in fact have him over that barrel, I would have joined the chorus for his head had he not pulled the trigger and got his butt into the fold. In that I hold that Ted Thompson is no dummy, I think he recognized that the chorus would have made the Mormon Tabernacle choir look like a barbershop quartet in comparison.

I'm not saying anyone was right or wrong as regards Ryan Grant's talent/promise or lack thereof... I'm only saying that we all have to remember the context in which he got paid. If we don't do that, we are practicing 20/20 hindsight, which of course is perfectly acceptable, this being a message board and all........ :thumbleft:

Sorry for dragging the BF fiasco into the conversation, and sorry for the crotch sniffing reference, (it's an industry term- see Prophet and PPO for clarification)

Yes, you're probably right about other coaches (and former coaches) repeating it. I just think it's kind of a platitude that is no longer based in fact. It seems like coaches feel the need to talk about the importance of the running game so they'll look tough. McCarthy does the same thing, even as the Packers continue to emphasize the pass over the run. I've learned to just tune him out when he starts talking like that.

dfosterf (1h) : Put him at right guard. That is where he will be coached. That is where he will compete. He is not even allowed to look at the LT playbook.
dfosterf (17h) : Kidding aside, I hope the best for him.

beast (5-Apr) : Probably not going to let Diggs walk away unless he's horrible... but according to reports he also might not be as good as he used to be.
beast (5-Apr) : The 25th pick in the draft has been an offensive player since 2017, 2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 OC
