A CFL star and a former college H-back will be with the Packers this offseason. The Green Bay Packers  made a pair of minor roster transactions on Monday with an eye on 2020 and beyond. The team announced the signing of two players to reserve/futures contracts , which will bring them to Green Bay for at least the start of the 2020 offseason program.
The first and most notable of the two players is wide receiver Reggie Begelton. A native of Beaumont, Texas, Begelton played college football at Lamar, his hometown university, and ended his career after the 2015 season as the program’s all-time leading receiver with 227 receptions and 2,435 receiving yards.
Instead of breaking into the NFL, however, Begelton has been playing in the Canadian Football League for the past three seasons, catching on with the Calgary Stampeders. After solid but unspectacular campaigns in 2017 and 2018, Begelton broke out in 2019, finishing second in the league in receptions with 102 and third in receiving yards with 1,444. He also tied for third place with ten touchdowns, helping the Stampeders to a 12-6 record, good for second place in the West Division. They were eliminated by the eventual Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the first round of the postseason.
Listed at 6-foot and 200 pounds, Begelton has been scouted by the Packers as far back as his Pro Day  in 2015, when the team was among those in attendance in Beaumont. There, he reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds and posted a 39.5-inch vertical. He did try out with the Falcons and Raiders at their rookie minicamps in 2016  and he also worked out for the Saints  late in 2019, but went unsigned in all instances.
Joining Begelton on a futures contract is fullback Elijah Wellman , a fullback from West Virginia. Wellman finished his college football eligibility after the 2018 season and earned an undrafted free agent contract with Washington as a rookie. However, he landed on injured reserve in training camp and received an injury settlement. He came back with Washington on a futures contract last year, but the team waived him just after the start of training camp and he remained out of football throughout the remainder of 2018.
A versatile H-back who has played fullback and tight end for the Mountaineers, Wellman carried the football 35 times for 137 yards and a touchdown over his college career. He added 16 receptions for 71 yards and three scores.
The Packers still have an open spot on their 53-man roster, as these signings do not count against the active roster limit.

Don't think many of you watch CFL, but Begelton is awesome. Really hope he can make the leap to the NFL. The challenge is NFL WRs start from the set position where CFL WRs are already moving pre-snap just as long as they don't cross the LoS.

I like that he's shorter and stockier than some of the other players Gutekunst has gravitated toward. Maybe he'll be scrappy and fight for contested balls in the mold of Cobb or Driver.

dfosterf (14h) : Suit him up and have him stand in front of the big board as a draft day cautionary tale.
Zero2Cool (15h) : Packers sign T Andre Dillard.
Mucky Tundra (18-Apr) : Adds most of the information this time of year comes from agents.

dfosterf (8-Apr) : I say he is better than so many of these draft picks
dfosterf (8-Apr) : Question of the week for me: Has anyone besides me done any deep dive into the potential of Alex McGough, our 3rd string qb?
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Or in Tunsil's case, something gets released day of draft or day before lol
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Seems every year someone does something pre-draft.

Zero2Cool (7-Apr) : Go Badgers!!!
Martha Careful (6-Apr) : Go Boilermakers!!!
Martha Careful (5-Apr) : Diggs has not stepped up in the playoffs and has a high cost
beast (5-Apr) : Probably not going to let Diggs walk away unless he's horrible... but according to reports he also might not be as good as he used to be.
beast (5-Apr) : The 25th pick in the draft has been an offensive player since 2017, 2 TE, 2 WR, 1 RB, 1 OC
Mucky Tundra (5-Apr) : Odd, why give up a 2025 2nd Rounder for him if you're just gonna let him walk?
Zero2Cool (4-Apr) : Texans to let Diggs be free agent in '25
buckeyepackfan (4-Apr) : 49r's aign RB Patrick Taylor.
Martha Careful (4-Apr) : Reversion to the mean would indicate we will keep it
Zero2Cool (4-Apr) : It's also been utilized in a trade in 14 of the past 20 years
Zero2Cool (4-Apr) : The 25th pick in the draft hasn't been made by it's original holder since 2016.
Mucky Tundra (4-Apr) : Gotta imagine that Green Bay vs Houston will be a primetime game this upcoming season
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : No. Kill QB. No worries. 😁
Mucky Tundra (3-Apr) : Diggs, Collins, Dell and Schultz is gonna be tough to cover
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : Stefon Diggs' trade will not be processed as a post-June 1 designation, so that is just over $31 million in dead cap this year.
Zero2Cool (3-Apr) : Bills trading WR Stefon Diggs to the Texans in exchange for a 2025 2nd-round pick. (via @rapsheet)
