So Packers DEFENSE gave up 42 tds or 297 points + 75 in fg for total of 372 points by the DEFENSE = 23 points per game

Jets DEFENSE gave up 33 tds or 231 points + 75 fg points= 306 total points or 19 points per game



Now 4 more points then the Jets is much more then the 1.6 you been claiming

4 points is eerily similar to the margin by which we lost so many games this season.

So here are Rodgers' end-of-season statistics compared to the all-time greats in their fourth season, as provided by longtimefan.


As we can see, Rodgers has the highest quarterback rating (beating Marino by a full 1.3), second-highest completion percentage (Aikman's was 0.2% higher), second-fewest interceptions (Montana had 1 fewer), third-highest passing yardage (only P. Manning and Marino had more), and third-most TD passes (only Marino and Favre had more).

Rodgers obviously stacks up very well against these HOF greats.

Unfortunately, these statistical comparisons are worthless, in my opinion, because they utterly fail to take into consideration at least three key factors: 1) How many starts did these QBs have entering their fourth season (Rodgers had none -- P. Manning had at least 48); 2) how good were the running games and defenses these QBs had (Matt Ryan has a better record than Aaron Rodgers this season, despite throwing half the TDs, largely because Atlanta has the #2 running game in the league); and 3) how these statistics compared to the league overall that season (e.g., Rodgers' TD count this season is 4th in the league).

If we can compile these comparisons, it will make these statistics far more valuable.

To me if a q/b has more starts, IT should mean that he is more experienced and should have better numbers..

For that last comparison you'll want to look at his ratios as well as the straight counting stats. This is what I was getting into on the thread in the Favre section. Rodgers this year threw a TD on 4.9% of his attempts. The league average was 3.9. He finished behind Rivers, Brees, Romo, Warner, and Tarvaris Jackson (only 7 games). His 2.4 INT% was better than the league average of 2.8, but puts him in the middle of the top TD% QBs. Roughly 5th in TD%, but roughly 10th in INT%. Good start with room for improvement especially in those shootouts where the last team with the ball wins. If he can shore up his performance there and start pulling out some of these games in spite of the defense, he'll take his place among the elite QBs of today. To even begin discussing him with the all-time greats, he's going to need to perform at that level for at least 5-7 years.

Keep in mind how good his stats would be if Ted Thompson would get him an OL.

Take a look at his sack totals. They're pretty high compared to other QBs. He's 7th in total sacks.

I know earlier in the season, he was holding the ball too long so it was partly his fault but as the season progressed, he stopped doing that and developed a much faster release and more "pocket awareness."

Rodgers was also instructed by the coaching staff to take sacks rather than attempt to force plays and risk interceptions. His higher sack numbers were expected this season.

I agree that the best comparison would be comparing each to league stats overall for each of their seasons, but even then I'm not sure you'll get a meaningful comparison.

For a true comparison, you need to know how would Rodgers have performed under similar circumstances. Supporting cast (OL, receivers, etc) differences may make any of these comparisons void. Take Brady last year--would his stats have been as good without Moss??? Would Montana's have been as good without Rice??? I don't think so.
