What kind of change? I understand and believe in the system that is in place up to this point. Nobody in the league thinks we're a "poor" team or "failing". I don't want a free-for-all spending spree in Free Agency. I don't think we could draft all that much better (compared to other teams, not the ideal). I like McCarthy more than any H.C. in GB since Holmgren circa 1997. Our cap situation is good. Our roster has improved greatly in my opinion.

If you let the parity of the league and circumstance force you into going for some arbitrary "change" without any direction for improvement, you deserve the plunge you are going to take. If by some bizarre set of events we get rid of Ted Thompson in the next year or two, I guarantee the Packers go downhill.

Talk more down-home and chew on a piece of straw during press conferences? Call in more big name aging FA's like Joe Johnson? Send us BACK into cap hell?

I have had an idea of how I wanted this team run for the past 3 years, and I have agreed with almost every move they've made. Does that mean I want them to keep doing the same thing? No, it doesn't, because strategy changes as your situation changes. But I'm waiting to see what moves they make this year before I assume they're not going to adapt their strategy to their current situation.

The teams with the most postseason success over the past decade also happen to have the most stable coaching and management staffs. I think we should emulate their example of patience

I am floored that many here would be ok with 1 winning season in 5 years. That is shocking.

I'm sure many here will be floored when we bounce back in '09 and have to come to the realization the poor record in '08 was due much more to poor coaching resulting in poor play on defense and not due to personnel.

Or did you not see McCarthy slam his headset down at end of the Bears game after seeing the defense fold for the 6th time at the end of a game?

Exactly. How about looking at the here and now, coupled with the prospect for the future, instead of CONSTANTLY rehashing what turned out to be a very shitty year. Anybody got a beef with the move(s) so far for 2009? Anybody mad that Ted manipulated the LTBE/NLTBE incentives at the end of 2008 to put more cap room in for 2009? Anyone pissed that we got Dom Capers? Are you ticked off that we have the best debt to value ratio (2%) in the entire NFL?
Angry that the very first thing Ted Thompson did was get the best player in that year's draft with the 24th pick, got him signed to a long term deal, got his cap number reduced by 4.3 million dollars for this year? LOOKS TO ME like we are in a pretty good position to do what is best for the team for 2009. I am excited at the prospects for this off-season, and this season. 2008 can kiss my ass.

I somewhat understand the points about the records...but I would understand it better if we would have went 10-6, 9-7 in '07. Except that we actually almost made the freakin' Super Bowl....

It's not even close to the 70s and 80s.

You guys say "I can't wait until next year" and I say "We almost made the Super Bowl in '07. Let him build some more."

Pretty hard to prove.... Nonstop.

I will just settle for some evidence of his self-centeredness.

The challenge is I can not find any thing that even suggests he is self centered, and or seeking any credit at all. He is all about "We's" and I never hear an "I" from the man.

I agree RP GM's that look for fame tend to turn into unemployed very very quick. If anything his insistance of staying behind the scenes tells me he is not a glry hound. I believes he wants to succeed if he didnt why have him.

Here's the truth.
We are one overtime away from the Super Bowl one year, 6-10 the next.
Ted Thompson gets NONE of the credit for the near SB,
but ALL the blame for the 6-10.

Does that make ANY sense to ANY of you?
(I know it will to the Ted Thompson haters.....even if we win the SB next year, it won't be because of ANYTHING Ted Thompson did in their eyes. Blind hatred is all it is, not based on anything solid)

I just don't get why some paint Ted Thompson as a self loving guy who only cares about himself. How did he get this job if theres any truth to that? The ONLY way he will be seen as a success in his job, and get ANY recognition...........and KEEP his employment and paycheck, is if he does a good job. Do people NOT understand that??? I bet HE does.
You think he doesn't KNOW that this coming season is HUGE? I bet he does.
He's NOT some blind idiot (like Matt Millen) who will be able to keep his job for even 3 more years if he doesn't produce a winner here FAST.

I KNOW he's going to do what he sees as best for the team, as it will be a death sentence for his employment if he doesn't.
Pretty simple logic, as i see it.

Cheesey, I am not doubting that Ted Thompson will do what he thinks is best for the team.

What I don't understand, is why so many people are ready to give him a pass if we have ANOTHER losing season. Winning is really all that matters.

Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.

dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
