I'd like to have Peppers on this team but not if it's gunna cost us an arm and a leg. If we can sign two or three decent players for the price of one Peppers, then i'd go with spreadin the money out and goin with the 3.

What point do you actually dish out some money?

I think Julius Peppers is as good as a player as free agency has seen in a while and I guess I'm wondering when is the right time to pay for a big name player. It seems like a lot of Packer fans want to be cheap. I don't mind that at all at first and I agree with it while you're trying to find a young core to build around, but I feel like the Packers have that young core already and now its the time to pay for a big name talent. GB needs someone to put them over the top in my opinion.

Even coming off poor record, I do not think the team is that far away from a serious playoff contender.

If it wasn't for the switch to the 3-4, I would say hell yeah, sign him up. It could be all that is needed. But me personally, am worried.

How would Peppers fair in the 3-4. Sure he wants to play it and believes he could be a good OLB. I am not so sure. The money alone is a risk on any player. Going after Peppers now would be compounding that gamble with the fact that nobody knows if he could manage the 3-4 OLB spot.

If not it is a huge contract hit for a DE in that scheme.

There are plenty of FA on the market that can come in a contribute, and for the money have the ability to get more than 1 for that scratch.

Piss on Peppers, IMO, he is going to get overpaid and never live up to the numbers in the deal.

Instead, here are a couple of players that would bring value to the Packers.

Demetric Evans - Not flashy, but a blue collar type player that will play hard and not reject the notion of playing the grind inside on the 3-4. DE in this system.

http://www.nfl.com/players/demetricevans/profile?id=EVA137627

Jovan Haye - Another 4-3 Tackle that could convert to an end.. however he is like Jenkins, a bit short in height and arm length to be overly effective, but would be solid and should bring value. Oh, and his is only 26.

http://www.nfl.com/players/jovanhaye/profile?id=HAY082807

Antonio Smith - Another 4-3 Tackle, but he has a decent burst, and picked up his game in the playoff run of the Cards this past season. Grinder.

http://www.nfl.com/players/antoniosmith/profile?id=SMI040937

Rocky Benard.. DT.. an anchor type player.. at 308 might not have enough girth to be a Nose, but he could slide up and down the front.

http://www.nfl.com/players/rockybernard/profile?id=BER235952

Mike Wright- DL - Been in the New England system for a number of years.. has experience with the 3-4 and the hybrid they deploy at times. Not overly flashy, but very solid.

http://www.nfl.com/players/mikewright/profile?id=WRI572219

And even though he is a restricted FA.. I would make a run at Kevin Vickerson, DT Titans... at times this past season his level of play approached that of his teammate and future over paid one in Haynesworth.. Vickerson is a ultra fiery player with a hint of nastiness to him.

http://www.nfl.com/players/kevinvickerson/profile?id=VIC647685

We need more help on he line than at the backer position right now.. we are short on the hog mollies that make the 3-4 spin.

I have my doubts about Kampmann playing OLB, so I sure as hell have doubts about Peppers doing it. If we are going to spend huge money on a Dlineman, I'd rather have Haynesworth to plug in as the bookend to Cullen Jenkins.

I seriously doubt we sign Peppers or Haynesworth, but Cheesey and I are rooting for Peppers just so we get to see you dressed in drag 93. Oh yeah, I haven't forgotten.

Too much money for an experiment of transitioning him to a 3-4.

Well I think for the right price he can be had from the Panthers much like Minnesota got Jared Allen from Kansas City. In fact I think Carolina would deal him for a first as I can't see Carolina keeping a player around whom doesn't want to be there.

I would say Peppers and Carolina could be heading towards what GB and Javon Walker did once upon a time, but I actually think Peppers is worth the money. Even if he averages 8 or 9 sacks a year for the Packers that's a huge improvement over what GB currently has had.

Will it cost a lot? Sure, but for the chance to have two of the most dominate pass rushers on the team it's probably worth it IMO.

EDIT:

Oh for the record I absolutely don't believe GB has any intention on going and getting Peppers, but it's just an interesting option worth discussion.

but, I think at some point in time the franchise is going to have to start trying to pick up a great player. I'm not saying it should be peppers, but i'm not saying it shouldn't be peppers, either.

yea i hear ya there.. We do need that legit star on D. Peppers could be what White was for Wolfe and Favre. Now im not that intune with all the defenses, i never really payed attention to a 3-4 d until we got Capers. I'm hearin so much bout how Peppers would most likely struggle in a 3-4 d. That's jus nay say but that's the only reason im not really all for getting Peppers. Not to say i'd be dissapointed if we got him. If Kampman can adjust to the 3-4 then why not Peppers? I jus dont know if he'd be worth what he's asking, if he made the impact Woodson made with us then he'd be worth every penny cause we'd most likely go to or win the superbowl with Peppers alone. I don't know if we'd be any better signing two guys in FA for the 3-4 then building through the draft instead of getting Peppers or even Scott. I want the Packers to make a big deal in FA if they choose not to do that then atleast sign more than one guy. We need help on D and a rookie or two wont really help much. Unless it's Orakpo and Brown.
