REDSKINS, 49ERS PURSUING DEMETRIC EVANS

Washington Redskins free agent defensive end Demetric Evans is in a relatively enviable position as the San Francisco 49ers and the Redskins are both in contract talks with him, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
Per Schefter, the prospective deals would be two years in length in the neighborhood of $4 million.
Evans is expected to make up his mind by Friday.
Last season in 11 starts, Evans posted 33 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks.
According to NFL.com, Evans has 147 tackles and 13 sacks in seven NFL seasons.

My real concern here is that players on this tier are talking with other teams. Now. They're not talking to the Packers (that we're being made aware of, and that's all I have to go on), and thus the Packers could be a step behind any other interested teams.

But this tier, below this we're looking at players that represent little to no improvement for the team - just depth and with a lot of luck maybe a gem in the rough. And the impression (whether it's true or not - again, how do we know) that our FO are sitting on their hands at this point is what worries me. These are the kinds of players we need to be making a run for if we're going to do much of anything but pad for depth in FA.
And if we do that, where are the starters coming from? Draft?
Again: I'm not raising the alarm, here. I am, however, more inclined to agree with those like Porky who feel that the team has starting-level holes and major depth concerns due to the scheme switch and our ongoing O-Line issues. If they don't actually show some real interest in the second-tier FAs available (especially D-Line), I will be worried about how that new D is going to fare.
