At #9, I'd be completely fine with any of these guys who I've seen projected to be available when we pick:

Jackson (DE, LSU)
Raji
Orakpo
Maybin
Smith (Alabama OT)
Oher

That's basically the same list as me except that taking Jackson that high seems like a reach.

I would be happy with any of those players.

Add Peiria Jerry to the list for me.. a little high at 9.. but here is to hoping somehow he lands with the Packers.

Back to this post, I wouldn't mind Oher, but not at 9, we can trade back a few spots and get him. I still would rather have Big Andre manning RT next year next to Sitton at guard and let them plow the way.

I don't see Raji in our future even if he falls to us. I see him more as a DT in a 43. Now his partner Brace is a different story. I woulnd't mind seeing us trade up into the late 1st round just to make sure we get him.

This is pissing me off. Not the post, but the circumstances that are creating a scenario where we would have to make that kind of reach in order to get Brace. He should be a third round pick. He will not be, not because he is so outstanding a football player, but because there are so few (no other?) credible prototypical nose tackles available.

And that there is the one glaring drawback of playing a 3-4.. and with the popular "new" trend, those hog mollies are going to become ultra valuable.

The 3-4 might be more economic in terms of backers and pass rushers, but it is equally offset by the cost of those men in the trenches.. specifically those upon the nose.

Sorry to get off the Oher theme, but imo this is important.

In the words of the priest when I was paying attention as a lad, "Let us pray":

ONE PERFECTLY SIZED (now) Nose Tackle that NO ONE IN WISCONSIN knows about

Again, sorry.

More on that subject... another option that might be available a little later than Brace.. due to the level of competition he faced..

The Packers also had a private workout with nose tackle Vaughn Martin from Canada. He's one of the fastest rising prospects seemingly coming out of nowhere.

Daily Links..

More on Martin..

Oher at 9 however wouldn't bother me a single bit..

A good point of view for drafting a tackle:

I read that this morning, did you notice the copyright thing on the bottom of the page.

I think Green Bays draft needs in order of importance are:

OT
NT
DE
S -

A lot of posters and mock forum geniuses think we are taking the rush OLB, but I would be very surprised if that happens.

Color me as shocked as well if we make any of the Brown's, Maybin's, etc the pick in the 1st...

Been saying the same thing all off season.. either line would suit me better than a one dimensional pass rusher.

Yea, that's why I didn't post any of the article here.

I think OT is definitely my #1 choice too. Protecting our offense, which is our main strength, should be priority #1. Both tackles are not guarantees, which is troubling for a primarily passing team.
