YES.

I was pretty angry about losing #4, but now really am happy with the 2009 Green Bay Packers.

I am much more excited about A. Rodgers than I am about an x-packer.

I really think the Packers will have three 1000 yrd receivers this year. Jennings, Donald Driver, and J-Fin.

I was worried about Kampman being in open space and having to cover TE, RB, but I never thought, guess what, a RB, and TE has to block Kampman and keep him from getting at the QB. So far, there is no way a RB or TE can stop Kampman from getting at the QB.

Desmond Bishop may challenge A.J. Hawk for a starting spot if he keeps playing at the level he has been playing at.

Cullen Jenkins looks like he can dominate at DE.

The Packers offensive line has been great at pass protection as well as creating running lanes.

I think we will win the North and make the playoffs with a first round bye.

Welcome home Annakin.

It's hard not to admire what the Packers have done so far. I still want to see how the offense handles a defensive line that can get pressure with four and stop the run with seven.

As much fun as it has been to watch this team so far in the preseason, we really won't know how good this team is until the regular season starts. You just can't judge how good or bad a team is based on a few preseason games.

All I hope that comes out of preseason is that we have no more injuries. Everything else is pretty meaningless.

I agree that the pre-season is not a total gauge of where a team stands but it is also far from meaningless. A team cannot just snap their fingers and start playing good football when the bell rings.

In terms of wins and losses in the pre-season that is not important but what is relevant is how the first team plays and where that stands in terms of being where they need to be when the season starts.

In the case of this pre-season for the Packers making the conversion to the 3-4 the pre-season is critical for them to determine how much of the system the players have taken in and if the personnel actually does fit.

This third game is the one teams plan for to see where the team is at in terms of being ready for the season. The starters will all stay in the game longer and more of the playbook will be cut loose. If we stay with Arizona for the first half and don't sustain any injuries I'll be a happy camper.

I actually wish we were playing this game against a team with a more prolific run game. To win the North we have to stop the run against two teams that are going to pound it.

They do have a good D though so it will be interesting to see how our offense moves the ball.

I was feeling pretty good about this team before the preseason, but I feel even better now. I'm still not 100% sure about the defense, because they are blitzing a lot, and that can make a defense look better than it is in the preseason, but I'm pretty sure there will be major improvement from last year. What impresses me most so far is the offensive line. I think that's been one of the weak links on this team in the Thompson/McCarthy era, but they look great this year.

So right now I'm thinking 11-5-ish, whereas before the preseason I would've said 10-6-ish. That's only one game better, but I feel much more confident about this team than I did before. Like it's much more than just wishful thinking.

Something just occurred to me when reading the sentence I bolded, above - one thing that has bothered me a little about the D in pre-season is that there have been mental lapses (over-pursuing, bad angles, etc.). Granted, with a new scheme that's probably to be expected, but when I take into account how much they've been blitzing I wonder if that hasn't been a partial culprit as well - you miss on a blitz and you're probably giving the O something easy.

SO, if we're not as blitz happy in regular-season-mode, we might see those gaffes reduced as well, which is a good thing. Won't be as fun to watch as pre-season, but also won't be as likely to cause ulcers.

Totally agree. A good to great pre-season is far from "meaningless." The outcome of the game is meaningless, but looking sharp with our first team is not. It is expected and is happening.

If we look as good with our 1st team as we have the 1st two games for the rest of the pre-season, I guarantee that swagger and confidence will carry over into the regular season.

In other words, we are doing almost everything that we should be doing so far with our first teams. What more can you ask?

As has been pointed out previously in this thread, what is important in the preseason is not the absolute numbers in the Win/Loss columns, but the performance of the first units. There seems to be a consensus that the first units have been stellar these past two games. (I didn't get to watch the second game due to being out of town, but the highlights look impressive.) So I think there are grounds for definite optimism this season. I just hope we can keep this rash of injuries under control. As we learned last year, injuries can derail a season in a heartbeat.

One of the highlights of this offseason has been our newly revamped defense. I have expressed the theory in the past that Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy have intended to move toward a 3-4 defense for some time now (perhaps as long as a couple of years), and that they were quietly assembling personnel better suited to that scheme, while giving Bob Sanders enough rope to hang himself. While more than a few individuals have scoffed at my idea, I think the performance of the defense thus far has lent credence to my theory, or at least shown that it's not so terribly far-fetched.

And yes, this is a not-so-subtle "I told you so." 😛

One thing you can't tell from the highlights, nonstop, is that the game (when the 1st units are in) plays like one continuous highlight reel. The big plays never stopped coming. It reached borderline absurdity against Buffalo. We were all in the gameday chat laughing.
