Make no mistake.

Green Bay is here to stay.

And that means the Lions will have to go through an old nemesis in hopes of taking over the NFC North.

The Packers, who beat the Steelers to win the Super Bowl, are built for long-term success.

Consider some of the factors in favor of the Packers, the only team in the NFC North to make back-to-back postseason trips the past two seasons: They are the second-youngest team in the NFL at an average age of 26.2. (The Lions, by the way, will be at 27.1 when next season begins).

The Packers are led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who at 27 is a Super Bowl MVP and just hitting his prime. He's coming off one of the best postseasons in history for a quarterback nine touchdowns, two interceptions and 1,094 yards in four games.

When next season begins, the Packers will have only three starters on their current roster older than 31 Charles Woodson (34), Chad Clifton (35) and Donald Driver (36). Woodson and Clifton were Pro Bowlers this season.

Throw in running back Ryan Grant (28), Pro Bowl receiver Greg Jennings (27) and tight end Jermichael Finley (23), and there's a nice nucleus of weapons for Rodgers.

On defense, outside linebacker Clay Matthews (24), cornerback Tramon Williams (27) and safety Nick Collins (27) are in their prime. Add defensive tackle B.J. Raji (24), corner Sam Shields (23) and inside linebacker A.J. Hawk (27) to the mix, and the defense has a core group of young, talented players.

They won the Super Bowl despite finishing the season with 15 players that were listed on injured reserve.

Among those hurt were Grant, who was eight carries into his season before breaking an ankle; and Finley, who lasted five games before he suffered a knee injury.

Both are expected to return at full strength next season.

And don't forget about all-pro inside linebacker Nick Barnett, who played in four games.

They have solid leadership in place.

Packers president Mark Murphy indicated this week general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy are in line for contract extensions.

Thompson and McCarthy have two years remaining on the five-year deals they signed after Green Bay's trip to the 2007 NFC Championship.

They don't stand to be hurt too much by free agency, whatever the format ends up being with a new collective bargaining agreement.

Defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins, receiver James Jones, guard Daryn Colledge and kicker Mason Crosby would be unrestricted free agents under the current four-year eligibility format. And, Driver also will be a free agent.

But, the Packers have 69 players under contract next year.

Plus, the Packers also have eight picks, plus a likely compensatory selection (loss of free agent Aaron Kampman) in the draft in April.

So, add up those factors for Green Bay, and you can expect the streak of 10 different NFC teams in the Super Bowl the last 10 years to be in jeopardy.

uffda udfa (52m) : Gus Bradley is new DC in SD/LA. I would've loved to had him here in Green Bay.
uffda udfa (4h) : It's just fine.
musccy (5h) : 5 questionable Packers, none for Falcons. Not good.
uffda udfa (5h) : Jordy not listed as OUT or DOUBTFUL. Questionable on injury report.
uffda udfa (6h) : This is the 6th straight game we've faced someone for the 2nd time. We learn.
uffda udfa (6h) : Aaron: I like our role. I like our chances. (said he relishes being an underdog)
uffda udfa (6h) : Aaron alludes to fake crowd noise at Georgia Dome for Sunday.
uffda udfa (7h) : So, to recap. Losing streak "just the way it is", winning streak "astronomical feat". #Balanced
uffda udfa (7h) : Ironically, he called the turn around "astronomical" not just the way it is in the NFL. #Don'tMissTheIrony
uffda udfa (7h) : Ted tells Demovsky the Packers weren't underachieving when 4-6. Just the way it is in the NFL????
Zero2Cool (11h) : Only time I recall getting annoyed is when they beat a single topic over and over and over.
Pack93z (11h) : Most yes... Heller seems to get it more so... diversity in his coverage... but seemingly can highlight the pressing issues properly.
Zero2Cool (11h) : I'm kind of in the boat that they all are babblying boonies.
Pack93z (11h) : God bless it... Bill Michaels can be a stubborn SOB at times... love his Packers coverage, still think he is a buffoon at times.
Zero2Cool (12h) : Jordy Nelson Named PFWA Comeback Player of the Year
Zero2Cool (13h) : Carter is predicitng the end is in ATL for Packers.
Porforis (13h) : Or I could just completely miss the part where that was Cris Carter.
Porforis (13h) : Careful there. Don't you want to predict a Packers loss just in case?
Zero2Cool (14h) : @criscarter80 :Every fairy tale comes to an end, and this is where the magic carpet ride stops in the ATL.
Zero2Cool (14h) : McCarthy: "JC Tretter actually had surgery Tuesday. He won't be available this week"
Zero2Cool (15h) : Crosby is fine now. Full Participant in practice Thursday
Porforis (15h) : What I'm more worried about at this point is WR injuries and Crosby being sick. Who'd be the backup if Crosby can't go?
Zero2Cool (16h) : We do have hope. Our secondary has improved. Also, he had to throw 80% to get 1 point up. That won't happen again.
Zero2Cool (16h) : I like to tease sometimes.
uffda udfa (16h) : Only 80%? :). We lost by one given that stat? Wish we had hope of tightening up.
uffda udfa (16h) : Z, u should tell everyone who Quintorris is. Quintorris Lopez Jones, better known as Julio.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Matt Ryan completed 80% of his passes against Packers in October.
uffda udfa (16h) : McGinn goes full on attack mode dismissing the notion of "Packers people". Harsh.
uffda udfa (16h) : McGinn says John Dorsey likely to be next Packers GM.
Zero2Cool (19h) : Boom! Davante Adams says last year's ankle injury "more difficult to deal with'
uffda udfa (22h) : Packers brass potentially leaving? Not worthy of discussing. Pressure Cooker? Never enough talk about them.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Put Quintorris in a pressure cooker.
uffda udfa (19-Jan) : Back to football: Julio says he's going to play Sunday. Did NOT say he wouldn't be limited in the game.
uffda udfa (19-Jan) : Anyone ever used their dishwasher to make their Thanksgiving turkey?
uffda udfa (19-Jan) : Favorite Ronnie Milsap song? Smokey Mountain Rain or Any Day Now?
