Who is our defensive leader? I was under the impression it was Nick Barnett, but Bozz said it's Collins and Zero said it's Woody.

my memory is fuzzy. now that i think about it, i think the article (i don't even remmber the article) said that Collins was the leader in the secondary. sorry for misrepresenting what i heard. i don't even remember if it was from a credible source, so take it for what it's worth; not much.

I think it's Barnett more than any other single player, but it's spread out. Other leaders are Kampman, KGB, Pickett, Harris, and Woodson.

Tough to pick. I think it's better to look at the leaders at each position.

D-Line: Kampman

LB: Barnett

DB: C-Murder (Woodson)

Yeah i definitely agree with this, the great thing is they have awesome veteran leadership in all the key areas on defense. I dont think there is really any one person, but as a group the defense is filled with great leadership.

Nick Barnett would be the comprehensive leader of this defense.

That's why he'll be wearing the headset this season.

Players and Coaches say its Charles Woodson.

edit, Nick Barnett is wearing the helmet because is durable and never leaves the field, when the defense is on the field.

So by that reasoning Collins is the second leader since he's the other player whose tried out the headset?

I think the headset thing is more so because Barnett as the MLB can afford to roam around a bit before the snap, communicate with the D-Line and DBs.

Kinda hard to have Woodson with the headset when he's gotta worry about WR motions, etc.

Also kinda hard to give the headset to Kampman when he's gotta maintain his technique and keep good pad level to do his job properly.

The MLB is a convenient position to have the headset on.

Woodson and Barnett from what I'm hearing Barnett kind of takes charge with his personality and the defensive backs look up to Woodson more than anyone. Again this is just what I heard on the radio and elsewhere too. I would say that's a pretty good duo.

Guys like Harris, Kampman, and Hawk kind of lead by example.

'Twas. But on a board that should not be named and I took a vow never to go back there ever again (so that rules out looking for it over there).

I think it's easier to do it by position: Kampman, Barnett, and Woodson/Harris. However, if you had to ask me who I felt was the leader for the D overall, I would have to go with Barnett. He just seems to have leadership qualities, it's hard to explain.

Its pretty hard to tell for us..From the outside looking in. But from the outside..I have always assumed that it has been Nick Barnett. He has energy and guys seem to rally around him. I even thought that about Barnett when he was young. His rookie year i thought that he would soon be the leader of that defense. And he seems to have the personality to be a leader.

Barnett calls the defense and, I just read this today, Collins directs the secondary.
That is one of the reasons Rouse doesn;t start in place of Collins, because he is still learning how to direct the secondary.

Zero2Cool (6h) : Who the hell gives a shit about Sat/Sun now? 3rd to 7th round? F U
Zero2Cool (6h) : I thought Sat/Sun was great. You make a weekend of it. Have buddies over, cookout, etc.
TheKanataThrilla (7h) : During the afternoons I tend to get caught up in family routines. I don't mind that for the later rounds.
TheKanataThrilla (7h) : I now take Friday off work. It is a bit annoying, but I do find it fun at night as I can crack a few beers and enjoy. Sucks if they trade out of the first round though.
wpr (15h) : I liked the Sat Sun version.
beast (21h) : HELL YEAH! ... the draft was SOOOO MUCH BETTER in the ol Saturday/Sunday format... only people that I've heard disagree are those that don't really follow the draft and just random get updates on thei
beast (21h) : Key word there is "proven"... not if they're true, but if you can prove it. Jerry Jones said the same thing for Greg Hardy, it wasn't "proven".
Zero2Cool (22h) : Flat out honesty from 49ers GM
Zero2Cool (22h) : John Lynch: “if these charges are proven true, if Reuben did hit this young lady, he won’t be part of our organization moving forward.”

Zero2Cool (17-Apr) : Jimmy Graham on whether he's still the same Jimmy Graham: "I'm still 6-foot-7 and still run a 4.55 (40)."
