Question.. not issue.. lol.

When the site navigated to the "Under Construction" page.. are you updating and locking the site down?

Or is it a backup routine?

Or something else?

Yes.. Curiosity skinned and killed thy cat.. lol.

I'm back "home" in Colorado now and kind of avoided the site for a good deal of the weekend and while I drove. So yeah it was a surprise to see the site under construction.

I nearly shat myself when I clicked PackersHome and saw UNDER CONSTRUCTION. I thought, dammit Shawn, what you doin ... wait, this is why I didn't pass out any admin. Then thought "dammit kevin what did YOU do!!!". haha

The software has an auto update and it caused the site to be slow for a period while it was downloading it and attempting to install/upgrade. I disabled it and that's how the site is "back".

NEAT HUH!?!?

Well I noticed it a couple of times over the weekend and I thought to myself.. Kevin enjoy your vacation.. lol.

Hence why I asked the question.. I thought maybe there was a backup routine and maybe the scheduled needed to be adjusted or disabled altogether for a less intrusive method away from taking the site down.

More a technical question on the platform design.

I have been not so patiently waiting all morning. Wondering why you couldn't do this at a reasonable time- say 2-3 in the morning like all the other techies.

Interesting, did it happen at a specific time that you can recall?

Haha, jerk! :P

I'm going to be setting up a mirror site that (hopefully) Shawn and I will be poking around with prior to making changes to this site.

PackersBeta.com or SilentShouting.com will be the test site.

I am in 100% agreement on this approach.. mirrored data included so tests can be ran against similar data(posts).

And since I still have the tools and data to do another import, that won't be an issue. I could probably just do a copy back of the live DB as well, which would probably be faster.

Quote:
Under Construction

There are occassions where a DotNetNuke site displays the underconstruction page and it is not clear why. There are only three specific cases where the under construction page is displayed

1. The system thinks it needs to perform an installation and the AutoUpgrade setting in web.config is set to false.

2. The system thinks it needs to perform a system upgrade and the AutoUpgrade setting in web.config is set to false.

3. The system gets an error when trying to determine if the database version matches the DotNetNuke assembly version.

In all of these cases the display of the page is triggered by the system having difficulty connecting to the db or because the system actually needs to be upgraded because the database is out of synch with the code.

To correct this issue, you should make sure that the latest version listed in the versions table matches the version of the DotNetNuke.dll. If this is correct then you should verify that the application can connect to the database.

Even if those explanations made sense, it still wouldn't explain why it goes down for 8, 10, or even 12 hours. How long can it possibly take for the software to upgrade itself?
