The probability of being injured in the NFL is 100%. No one leaves with fully functional joints.

100% agreed. But I'd much rather one of my favorite players retire with bad knees than a broken neck.

Yes. I read the article. It's just hard for any of us, no matter how many arguments that you make that he's safe, to see one of our favorite players with a neck injury. Head and neck injuries scare us. The other ones, we deal with.

I wonder between Jennings/Levine/Rookie/Peprah; who wins the SS battle in training camp should Collins call it a day? I know the staff likes Jennings and Levine.

And why is there such a lack of good safeties in the League? I really wanted to have the Collins/Burnette thing work out. Would have given Dom some excellent toy in which to work.

It's the same reason as why America doesn't have great soccer players. The best athletes in America generally don't play soccer because you can make money doing one of the other sports.

The fastest dudes play CB. The ones who aren't that fast play S. That stereotype has a lot of truth to it.

It's pretty sad to see footage of a guy like Earl Campbell in his present day hell. That guy was a fricken freight as a player reduced to a man in permanent rehab.

I remember thinking Robert Smith was a fricken pussy for fleecing the Vikings and retiring in his prime; but the guy is financially secure and still has a sound mind and body; plus he gets to lay claim that he played the game at a high level.

Nick Collins doesn't have a damn thing to prove to any of us. He has quite the resume in a short career, including a ring and interception for touchdown in a super bowl. Nothing to prove to us selfish Packer fans. Here's hoping he makes a sound decision. The one thing I don't want to see is the Packers releasing him only for him to play with another team. If he does make it back on the field it better be with G on his helmet.

Earl Campbell was juicing, imo.

This comment is so irrelevant that I won't even respond to it.

Wait a minute.

I thought he met with his doctor on monday. I have been following this story everyday looking up nick collins on google hoping that he will return. He is one of my favorite players and one of the best safties we ever had.

Yes he got his result from the doctor already. latest update on nick was this:

Green Bay Packers FS Nick Collins (neck) is scheduled to travel to Green Bay next week to talk about his future with the team.

2012-04-03 09:00:01 | Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

In the article this thread is based on, it says "sometime this month" so don't get ur hopes up that we hear anything about it before the draft.

I think it may have been in the article posted, but I read the Packers will not make a decision until the end of the month of April. this month. After the draft. Which, ... makes sense.

Man....i wish they would let us know if he's coming back.
His health is first of course, but if he is cleared by the doctors and wants to play, i say let him play.
The problem he had was fixed, and if the docs say he's ok, he's probably in better shape and less likely to suffer a serious injury then he was before the injury.

There is so much focus on the phyiscal of Nick's neck which I understand, but where is the questioning of how Nick will respond psychologically when faced with the nasty types of hits that a Safety is required to deliver. I want Nick back, but I am afraid the Nick we do get back will not be the one we are used to even if he is given guarantees that he is no more at risk than any other football player.

Nick returning to form has been the biggest question mark to me. When thinking about it, however, I think it's possible. It will take some time, but it's certainly possible. NFL players are used to that kind of stuff and with enough training and conditioning (both mental and physical), I think he'll be OK.

beast (29-Sep) : I'm not sure if it's still true, but it used to be hard to get sacks on Eli because he'd toss one up when linemen got semi-close (which lead
Zero2Cool (29-Sep) : Slam Eli a lot very early. Once rattled he can't regain composure.
beast (29-Sep) : since slot WRs might be the Packers strength depth/talent wise
beast (29-Sep) : With AR's passing % down field so low, I've been saying they should go with short passes like the Pats used to do, especially since slot WRs
