I think the Niners are overrated. They're not as good as their record last year would indicate.

This coming year they come back down to earth. Starting in week 1.

some would say the same thing about GB.

Especially when it comes to looking at the record last year.

For us coming back down to earth would be 12-4.

2009 Green Bay Packers scored 45 points in one of the best Wild Card games ever
2010 Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Champions
2011 Green Bay Packers 15 - 1 regular season record

Playoffs three years in a row with one Super Bowl win and the last season netting 15 wins ... kind of hard to over rate them.

2009 - San Francisco 49ers finished with a 8 - 8 regular season record
2010 - San Francisco 49ers finished with a 6 - 10 regular season record
2010 - San Francisco 49ers finished with a 13 - 3 regular season record with a solid game in the NFC Championship under a new head coach.

Typically, under a new head coach, teams tend to have a better year one than the prior year. I think the 49ers are good, just don't see them getting more than 9 or 10 wins this season.

That '09 playoff loss was a fluke too.

Easy big fella. I did not say that I am over rating them. And I was only referring to their 15-1 record from last year.

Even with a stellar year this year many expect them to go 13-3 or 14-2 (win the SB of course. That goes without saying.) But a couple of losses is a little less of a season than 2011's 15-1.

ya look at how great the Packers were the past few years they were awesome and the Giants sucked
2011 super bowl champs
2010 miss playoffs due to tie breaker with packers
2009 8-8 missed playoffs
2008 12-4 lost division round
2007 10-6 beat the undefeated Pats for the Super Bowl

Man they sucked the last 5 years but we are far better than them.

ok did some research and here is the 10 best records from last 5 years

Falcons 47-33 1 losing season
Cowboys 47-33 1 losing season
Giants 49-31 0 losing seasons 2 Super Bowls
Chargers 49-31 0 losing seasons
Ravens 49-31 1 losing seasons
Colts 51-29 1 losing season
Saints 52-28 1 losing season 1 super Bowl
Packers 55-25 1 losing season 1 Super Bowl
Steelers 55-25 0 losing seasons 1 Super Bowl
Pats 64-16 0 losing seasons

I'll take the SB wins. Right now, the Giants are the best team of the past 5 years, despite the regular season record. We're tied for next (with a few other teams).

Are the 2011 Niners overrated? Their D was solid and D wins championships. Hard to say unless we played them in the CG, which we didn't because we shot ourselves in the foot against the Giants.

I don't think the Niners are overrated. They have a defense full of studs.

I think their offense is going to be a bit better with that LaMichael(sp) James kid sharing the load with Frank Gore.

I have 2 reasons why I think the 49ers are over rated.

1. The Saints on grass are nothing like the Saints in a dome. Brees has a horrible record and rating when playing on grass and threw 5 picks. Even then, they nearly lost. With 5 picks, the Saints should have been blown out. 5 is a lot of picks.

2. Smith sucks.

To be blunt.

Let me explaine. Smith has been a poor QB when throwing down field. His accuracy and decision making on a down field pass is terrible. Even last year. They installed a run first/short yardage scheme that allowed Smith to avoid his problems and make safe plays with less pressure. It was a great decision and I think it would probably work again.

The problem with that is, the just got Moss, Manningham and AJ Jenkins. They are all 3 speedster/down field receivers. It appears that they are aiming to make Smith a down field passer.

Personally I doubt they will be happy if Smith is only throwing a pass or two a game to the down field threats. If Smith tries to go down field. He is going to be making a lot of mistakes and poor throws. Better receivers won't make Smiths accuracy or decision making any better.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.

Not screaming in terror like his passengers.
