Can someone tell me why Donald Driver isn't in the rotation more? It can't be age. He's still got it. And he got us the dagger TD tonight.

In the preseason, people made fun of me for being so pro-Driver. He's clearly better than James Jones (in my opinion anyway). He still has the moves, and the HANDS.

HANDS.

4 drops by the Packers tonight. 2 by Jordy, 1 by Finley, and 1 by someone I'm too drunk to remember.

HANDS. VETERAN LEADERSHIP.

DONALD DRIVER!

So why isn't he in there?

He will be getting it.. that mental error by Jones will get Driver more play. He is coming.. tell them Driver is coming.
I think when there's enough will and aggression, there's no shortage of talent either.

Look at the picture Pack93z made me. Yes, Driver still has "it." I'd love to see more Driver and less Jones as well. Jones should have had that TD. Driver would have caught that.

Maybe Driver will be our secret weapon later on in the year, after Gregorious, Jordy, and Cobb leave their mark. I'm not expecting much from Jones or Finley other than more key drops.

I have faith in Jordy to catch the ball. I think tonight was a fluke.

The only reason I can think of: other WRs have outplayed him in practice. Which is still a shitty reason because time after time Driver has proven he brings it during games - often better than our other WRs.

I'll be interested to see the snap count of tonight's game. Driver really should be getting a good number of snaps - he certainly can still play the game at a high level.

James Jones, in the endzone...hit both hands. Had a little much on it and Jones had to jump high for it, but it hit him in both hands.

The old man still has it. Driver needs more snaps. Not all snaps...but he should definitely be in the game. Loved his touchdown dance, haha. Applause

Donald Driver had the most drops last season for the Packers not named Finley.

It was nice to see Donald Driver with the TD catch doing his dancing with the stars routine. I have to admit that we have a lot of WRs competing for these spots. I am thinking that Jones should take a seat to Driver after yesterday. Maybe Jones just never got his shot to play WR consistently with the pack and is therefore making mistakes. Unfortunately, he is not a young player anymore and the pack can't sacrifice the time to let him "develop" with new guys waiting to be the Gregarious.

I'd have no problem with that. JJ needs to work on "over the shoulder" and also turning and catching.

Until he masters those skills, he should descend the depth chart, much like Shields did this preseason.

Driver should get more playing time.
He is still a good possession reciever IMO.
A good option on third and short instead of throwing a 60 yard bomb.

That call is still grinding on me.

I said all along that DD still had "it!"
I also think he should replace Jones. Maybe it would wake him up that you can't keep making mistakes and still have your spot on the team.
I'd also like to see what Boykin can doo. he was a MONSTER in the preseason.
I just think the coaches want to bring him along slowly. I do believe we will see him in some games this year.

Against Seattle would be nice..or Indy. A game the Packers *should* win and can test the waters with Boykin. At this point, he can't be any worse than James Jones. Not completing your route is a big no no in Mr. Rodgers neighborhood.

according to the gamebook report (page 16) Cobb and Driver were only in there for 29 & 18% of the plays.

Quote:
R Cobb WR 20 29%
D Driver WR 12 18%

Both play the slot most of the time. It is not that DD can't line up wide but I am sure Mike McCarthy prefers him to be the man who goes over the middle. He can do it better than most of the other WR.

Another factor for DD not being on the field as much on Thur is they didn't use the 3 WR as often. With Benson having a good game they had Kuhn or a TE out the to block for him.

Quote:
Kuhn FB 31 46%
T Crabtree TE 27 40%

So the general consensus is to swap Driver into Jones spot in the roster? What is the upside of letting Jones have more snaps then?

I'm just surprised we haven't seen more of DD because there were a number of articles or pieces of articles about the good camp he was having. I definitely have more trust in DD than Jones. It's a long season, might they be saving him more for the end, giving the young receivers a chance to develop more or something else more than what we see on the surface?

I can't speak for everyone else, but I'll be fine with that.

Driver may have had more total drops last year than Jones, but Jones drops the important ones. Like last game, he dropped what should have been a TD pass. Driver caught a TD pass. Driver is also better with running after a catch and is fearless up the middle.

Can you go through and show drop by drop the down and distance for the two? I'd be really interested in seeing those stats.

Maybe part of it is keeping DD healthy and ready if/when he is needed the most. It's a long season, and at his age i don't want to see him burned out early in the year.

Rodgers and McCarthy abandoned the dink and dunk passing game that seemed to be Favre and Rodgers' bread and butter in their early years with the system.

Under that philosophy, Driver especially shined. Now that we've gone to a more vertical passing game and McCarthy has gotten all exotic, the bigger receivers have to see the field.

Holy f^@# is this a ridiculous statement. If Jones catches his ball, it is highlight reel material. The only reason Driver got one to the bread basket is that Rodgers looked off the safety long enough for DD to get his old ass into the seam.

Obviously Jones and Finley will always be whipping boys, and DD shits golden turds with some of you.

The reason DD gets much fewer snaps is because he has fallen down the depth chart, and that's really what it is all about.
