2011 the Packers were near the bottom with 29 sacks. After week 7 they are first in the NFL with 24 sacks.
2011 - 29 sacks, 27th place 2010 - 47 sacks, 2nd place (1st place was Steelers with 48) |

sacks are nice. Pressures and hurries of the QB are important as well. They lead to ints. |

You'd think eventually this could lead to a top 10 ranked D. They have been inconsistent at stopping the run so far. Sometimes get too soft in the second half when up by several scores |

But yes. I wrote up the sack totals for the last 5 SB winners. 4 of the 5 were amongst the top of the NFL in sack totals. No coincidence. The only exception were the Saints. But they led the NFL in INTs. Again, no coincidence. |

The Packers have been outstanding with their pressure this season. It's definitely not a coincidence that sacks are up and the secondary (Tramon Williams & Sam Shields) is playing better.

gonna have to disagree here. while the sac numbers are up, which is a great sign. GB is still not putting on consistant pressure.

The Packers are doing a great job at making the opposing QB fear for his life and he's giving our DBs plenty of opportunities. It's not the fault of our sack artists that our DBs can't hang onto interceptions (with Hayward the lone exception from this verbal criticism). |

There is no doubt that some of the sacks are "coverage sacks" just like some of the ints are due to pressure on the QB. You can't have an effective D with out a little of both. |

I think the bigger thing than the sack and pressure numbers is the fact that the pressure is coming from more than one spot. Noted that the Dline rotation was better this season, it is showing as we are getting pressure along the front and from the edges. This makes the blitz packages more effective.
We are not dominate, but we are definitely getting pressure. |

They aren't going to be putting pressure in the QBs face on every play and especially not when teams are using extra protection. If the other team is using extra blockers and the pressure isn't getting there it's still a win because some of their weapons are being taken away. The pressure has overall looked really good this year to me.

I don't claim to be a mind reader, but I can almost guarantee that the opposing QB has CM3 in the back of his mind every single snap.
Sacks are sacks. The numbers don't lie.
That said, we still haven't sacked opposing QBs as much as we've allowed sacks. This has got to change. |

It's been solid. Not to overlook these next few games but we'll really see where we are at when we play the Giants. They seem to try to keep everyone in to block Eli and he avoids the rush pretty good. It'll also be a challenge for the DB's but If we come out with 2-4 sacks and a decent amount of pressure.
Having said that, the Houston Texans have a very good O Line and we passed that test. |
