This thing has only begun in earnest, and I'm surprised my power lasted through the first big gust a few minutes ago.

Oh, and I have pneumonia, my wife has had to do all the prep, and she isn't taking this as seriously as I would have if able to do so.

Example- My neighbor Ed knew something was up yesterday-- Came over and wanted to know why the hell my gutters weren't cleaned... My wife told him, and he went up on my roof and did it for me.

My wife went to work as she has a "bid due". I strongly suspect she made a huge mistake.

This is going to be very ugly.

I'll take an earthquake any day of the week over those storms/hurricanes/gales/whatever you all get out there.

The hope, mine anyway, is that the damage as limited as it can be with this type of storm, and that the safety of the many is better than anticipated.

Also.. get healthy my "Crony" of a friend.
I think when there's enough will and aggression, there's no shortage of talent either.

None of you fuckrs ever feel sorry for us when we piss icicles. And yes, I'll still take the cold over earthquakes and hurricanes. I do believe it is unwise to live near a coastline. Cool to visit, not so cool to put your homes at risk to smell the ocean air constantly.

And Gunny, put down the filterless camels for a few days and rest those lungs. Get out the Copenhagen for your Nic fix.

sorry you are in a mess. It is nice to have a neighbor who helps out. I cleaned my elderly neighbors gutters more than a few times.
Hope you feel better soon. I have had a nagging cough for a couple of weeks now. My wife keeps telling me to see the Dr. I ignore her. Mine seems to be getting better even if it is taking awhile. I tell her it was just the insulation dust I breathed in and it is working its way out of my lungs.

Someone from my childhood was saying she loves it in North Carolina because of the weather. I said hey I'm fine with the cold, its earthquakes and hurricanes I don't care for so its fair to me. A few weeks later ... this hurricane crap.

Ding ding shrinking cold > earthquakes / hurricanes

Anyone who is out there, stay safe and evacuate when you are told to. Sound like something you are not going to want to sit out.

Great news on the storm situation! Yesterday afternoon the wind was so bad against my garage door that the hinges to each section were popping and stripping the bolts securing them to the door itself. The force was so strong that you could not physically press that little point at the hinge back in place manually. I took several 2x6's, some carpet padding, (to protect the bumpers) and wedged the 2x6's between the cars and the door. Worked like a dream! Now I don't know if I have any shingles left, and am fearful to even look outside once we have light, but the important thing I wanted to report is that the Green Bay Packers stock certificate ( which resides in the garage) is unscathed.

A man must establish his priorities.

That was a stressful evening. The sound and feeling was a constant "pulsing freight train"-- just not having to listen/feel that anymore is relief. We lost power at about 6 PM, and I was amazed it lasted that long. Then we had a divine / PPL intervention (Pennsylvania Power and Light Razz )) . Somehow, someone was able to restore power to us about 2 hours later. When you are looking at a scenario of not having power for the next week plus - sick as a dog- to have it come on and stay on is nothing short of a miracle.

I appreciate the Godsend even more as I type this, as the "cold-side" of this storm is upon us, and we would be quite miserable without heat. I don't know if this good fortune will last, as the local news is showing several power lines in very close proximity where things like light poles (lit) have the light itself about 2 feet off the ground- I'd call that tenuous.

I also seem to be a little better health-wise. I couldn't have asked for better luck, and we needed it.

The damage I'm aware of in my neighborhood is extensive, we shall see how we fared in a bit.

Good to hear that you are still riding out the storm, as it were Dave.

Sincerely hope that all goes as well as can be expected for this evolution.

Take care and be safe my friend and just ignore DakotaT's comments as he truly is a dumbass of the lowest order.
And I believe that you need to explain to that numbnuts the difference between "Gunny" and "Gunner" again.
Providing pictures might prove useful, as DT's reading comprehension skills are sorely lacking.

Keep us updated.....Gunner ThumpUp

Wayne-

That's what I did. I ignored the wife, tried to "ride it out", worked, actually got better for about a day...

Now steroids, antibiotics, inhaler, threats of hospitiliazation and/or death from doc if I continue to try and smoke-I cut back to a pack a day, lol, multiple re-visits, chest x-rays, blood tests, inability to even walk without coughing, massive headaches, snot everywhere...

I'd do the same damn thing you are doing all over again, lol - I admit it.

Nick-

Dakota can call me Gunny all he wants. Every time I see it I think of "my" Gunny. I don't even remember his name, and I have seen Gunnery Sgts come and go over the years.

I've told that story before, so I'll be short and sweet.

You fucked up in his company, you had 3 choices. Article 15, 6x6x6, or fist-city with the Gunny (he spoke in the 3rd person like that).

My infamous Gary Barton (a constant repeat offender) made the major mistake of going with option 3 ONCE. His page 11 was a mile in length, those holes he had to dig were all over the battalion area, and I guess he figured he stood a good shot of taking the old (to us) man.

It's the only time I ever saw Gary get his ass kicked, and no one ever tried option 3 again. That was almost 2 decades before that Clint Eastwood flick (I forget the name) where they tried to kick HIS ass. Hollywood had to have stolen that scene from H&S co. Battalion Landing Team 1/2, in the mid 70's---I swear to Christ, lol

Cigar chompin', Chesty Puller lookin' bad motherfucker... Ya, he can call me Gunny... I only wish he knew what a great compliment it is.

Dave I know you got it a lot worse. Mine isnt pneumonia. (stupid word.) I can take a decongestant. 4 hr variety and be fine all the rest of the day. I know you could not.

I wonder where your big black bear went to hunker down during the blow. Maybe he ended up in Ohio. If he registered he can vote as well. Prob can vote even if he is not registered.

Just north of Harrisburg- S Central PA. The storm went NW from Atlantic City directly to here, then turned North... right here.

The center of the storm was literally over my house early this am.

A couple of doors down across my street, a neighbor moved into his house 3 weeks ago after a reconstruction from a fire during Hurricane Irene last fall. Over a year without a house...

There is a huge hole in the gable end of it. That has to suck.

We get a "venturi effect" along what is known as the Linglestown corridor, as we are at the base of the Blue mountains--think of a giant version of a street with high-rises with the wind trying to blow right down the street.

Edit
Sandy came ashore 81 miles from here as the crow flies (very fucking fast, last night--the crow that is, lol). We were getting slaughtered when the hurricane was over 120 miles in the Atlantic, and from then on. It actually got BETTER when it got closer to us. Talk about a massive storm- They said if you were in a commercial airliner flying over it, it would take 2 and half hours from one end to the other.
