I know I berate his actions upon the field at times, most notably the cheap shots over the years and his little calf roping speel, but his charity work is mostly overlooked.
Well done.. you purple panzy.
Quote:Jared Allen raises nearly $300,000 for wounded warriorsVikings defensive end Jared Allen has been raising plenty of money for wounded warriors via an unconventional golf tournament. On Friday night, he generated a large chunk of what he calls cashish through more traditional means.
The First Annual Jared Allen “Helping Heroes Gala” was held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis, and the event raised nearly $300,000 via ticket sales and a silent auction.

You'd be surprised (maybe not YOU per se) how many of these guys are charitable off the field.
Look up Cortland Finnegan when you have a moment.
This was very cool and good of Jared Allen to do. I hope more people continue to do selfless acts like this.

Good on him. As much as it seems a crime against nature to admire Vikings, what he did is very cool.
Still not going to root for him, but very, very cool...

well done Al. Giving him a pat on the back even if it is with a step ladder is NOT admiring the vikings. It is recognizing the actions of a very large and strong man and what he does off the field.

Back in 2003 when Jared was a senior at Idaho State, they play Montana in Missoula. I was working the sidelines as a volunteer staff security person......meaning "look tough, but get out of the way if trouble brews."
The Griz blasted ISU, but Allen wrecked his usual havoac on the Griz QB, running backs, linemen, officials, his own coach, and fans in the stands who targeted him for verbal abuse about two weeks before the game.
After the game I was standing along the runway that ISU had to take back to their locker room. Jared walked right by me and I casually said something like, "nice game, you really wrecked up the Griz QB and the running game."
He stopped and smiled at me, came over (I thought I was truley dead) and shook my hand and said thanks. He then said he was glad he never had to play again in Grizzly Stadium or against them (0-4 in his years at ISU). He then said, "I wish every stadium we went to had this atmosphere. I love coming up here. But I hate losing to you guys. Glad I'm done."
Every time I see him play I can't help think about that time, and what Pack93z posted only shows that deep inside the guy is ok. Plays at 175% all the time, gets emotional, but is a good, good player.

Good for Allen. Every account of him I hear off the field he seems like a good man, and probably someone who I'd like to grab a beer with. It's always great to see stuff like this.
Still a tw@t on the field, mind.
Oh, and nice story Bob!
