Compiled the comparison through 11 weeks of the 2011 Packers defense to the 2012 Packers defense.

Only category that we have regressed... # of picks. Otherwise, it is improvement across the board.

*edit.. we have given up one more rushing TD to date. We are screwed. [aiee]

In the time-frame when Reggie White was out there, I remember honestly looking forward to our defense going out on the field, largely just to see what the hell was going to happen next, and in a good way, 99 44/100% of the time. That was a good feeling to have. A tough standard to live up to, but damn it felt good to be a gangster.

THAT difference between pre- Reggie and post Reggie felt profound, to me. I love a guy like Clay, but he didn't come to a sucky-team like Reggie did.

Great stuff, your statistics, thanks a lot for sharing. Even more impressive having in mind which bunch of guys put those numbers together compared to last year.

Interesting chart, would be nice to see a similar one at the end of the regular season. One question, is Sack % calculated as sacks/defensive play or sacks/passing play?

Sack % = sacks/(pass att + Sacks)

I'll bet the number of big plays has been cut back as well.

edit- this year GB has given up 38 plays of 20 yards or more. 5 of 40 or more.
I don't have the numbers after 11 weeks but for all of 2011 it is 80 & 12. Looks like they will finsih well below last year.

A very big part of that is greatly improved tackling, especially in the cornerback position. Plenty of those 20 or 40 yard gains started out as 10, 15 yard gains until someone whiffed on a tackle or tried knocking the receiver off his feet instead of wrapping him up.

Interesting to note though that the opponents QB rating is lower this year even with the decreased # of picks.

I love it when Packer players prove me wrong!!!!

This is what I posted day after the draft this year.

"Day after draft, I'm gonna stick with my original prediction.
Ted was busy in this years draft, Hitting on position of needs the 1st 4 picks.
As it is at this time every year there is hope that the rookies will come in and give an immediate upgrade.

Perry has the best chance to start.

Worthy and Daniels should get some rotation work, but don't see them as 1st year starters.

I like the Hayward and Mcmillian picks, but don't see either making a big splash the first year."

Pack93 that's a great breakdown.

You pointed out the drop off in interceptions so far this year, will be curious to check that stat at end of year, seems we have at least one "Ball Hawk" DB who is now a very important part of The D.

Buckeye, I think I'm going to start asking you for advice - and whatever you say, I'll do the opposite. [grin1]

Zero2Cool (2h) : Damn-Falcons coach Dan Quinn tells reporters that WR Julio Jones (foot) will be limited this week but will be “ready to rock” on Sunday.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Packers defense has a red zone INT in each of the last 3 games... Hyde with two of them. (One being the clutch 4thQ INT vs DET in Week 17)
Zero2Cool (3h) : Randall Cobb, Damarious Randall, Quentin Rollins, James Starks, Clay Matthews, Ty Montgomery & Jared Cook. OUT
Zero2Cool (3h) : Packers inactive list when they lost 33-32 to the Falcons week 8.

Smokey (5h) : Zero, I believe that you and some others place too much emphasis upon data. no harm intended.
Zero2Cool (5h) : It’s the 1st time since 1970 all 4 conference championship teams finished the regular season on winning streaks of 4+ games
TheKanataThrilla (5h) : Salt mine. Love it.
TheKanataThrilla (5h) : The refs kept that game close. We should have blown them out early.
DarkaneRules (5h) : Hyde and Gunter are special and I'm hopeful D Ran gets back to where he can be
mi_keys (5h) : That whole forum is a salt mine. It's beautiful.
Zero2Cool (5h) : Burnett's back up, Kentrell Brice lead team in tackles.

uffda udfa (11h) : Great news.
Zero2Cool (15h) : Jordy has "legitimate hope" to play, per @RobDemovsky.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Packers had one call on defense if called, no issue, wans't called. I didn't watch OL so dunno. I watched WR's
Zero2Cool (16h) : Dallas OL had some holds weren't called and 2 defensive holds, not called.
uffda udfa (16h) : I think the Pi vs just a holding call is a legit complaint. Terrible call.
GoPack1984 (16h) : Dallas can't complain about the officials. They got away with so many defensive holding calls.
uffda udfa (16h) : Dallas radio postgame: Dallas wins 7 out of 10 times.
uffda udfa (16h) : Brice led Pack w/ 6 tackles including the hardest of the game.
uffda udfa (16h) : Post game show said same thing. Everyone wondering how it didn't stay left.
Zero2Cool (16h) : Tornado warning forces players, fans to stay put at AT&T Stadium
Zero2Cool (16h) : Skip:More I see winning FG, more I see a very weird thing: It hooked hard left, then straightened out. Obviously no wind. Like meant to be

uffda udfa (16h) : I don't believe Dallas is better than us. When Aaron is on we're the best.
beast (16h) : The huddle penalty was an odd one. Without Burnett and Nelson.
uffda udfa (16h) : Cowboys radio team initially called Crosby GW NO GOOD. Lol.
DarkaneRules (17h) : we beat an arguably better team at their place without morgan burnett. still can't believe it
uffda udfa (17h) : Re emphasized we aren't the better team. Sour grapes are sweet to me.
uffda udfa (17h) : Complaining of PI call and huddle penalty.
uffda udfa (17h) : Dallas play by play guy said we aren't best team.
