Of course they tried to get him the record.. and 38% from the 3 point line isn't exactly lighting it up.. but it is still an impressive feat. Quote:Wisconsin native shatters NCAA scoring markJack Taylor’s performance left even Kobe Bryant impressed. The Division III guard shattered the NCAA scoring record with 138 points, hoisting a mind-boggling 108 attempts — or one shot every 20 seconds — in eclipsing the previous record by 25 points. Taylor made 27 of 71 3-point attempts, was 52 of 108 overall from the field and added seven free throws on 10 attempts while playing 36 minutes in Grinnell’s 179-104 victory over Faith Baptist Bible on Tuesday night in Grinnell, Iowa. “That’s crazy, man. I don’t care what level you’re at. Scoring 138 points is pretty insane,” the Lakers’ superstar said after Los Angeles’ victory over the Nets. Even Taylor was having a hard time processing his feat. “I don’t think reality has set in yet,” said the 5-foot-10, 170-pound sophomore from Black River Falls, Wis.................. Taylor recently transferred to Grinnell, located about 50 miles east of Des Moines, after playing one season for Wisconsin-La Crosse. Under coach David Arseneault, the Pioneers press and shoot 3s like nobody else in the country at any level. They’ve led the nation in scoring for 17 of the past 19 seasons while ranking first nationally in 3-point shooting for the 15 of those past 19 years. Taylor’s game was so astounding it overshadowed the 70 points Faith Baptist’s David Larson had on 34-of-44 shooting. |

Quote:D-III Player’s 138 Point-Game Is A Sham Record And Shouldn’t Be Celebrated By Anyone Barry PetcheskyJack Taylor, of the Grinnell College Pioneers, scored 138 points in a game last night, against Faith Baptist Bible College. It's a mindblowing number, shattering the old NCAA mark of 113, and it's being trumpeted as one of sports' all-time individual achievements. It is not. It is bullshit. It is just the latest incarnation of Grinnell's decades-old strategy of seeking media attention for records achieved through a complete bastardization of basketball. David Arseneault is the man behind the plan. Since becoming Grinnell coach in 1989, Arseneault has focused less on putting together a successful team and more on getting his players' names in the record books. And, not incidentally, selling books and videos touting his innovative "system." At least three separate times a Grinnell player has set the D-III single-game scoring record, and each one has gotten national attention. In 1998, Jeff Clement went for 77 points, and received a story in Sports Illustrated. Last season Griffin Lentsch scored 89 points, and got a feature on ESPN.com. Today, Taylor's 138-point game is everywhere. Arseneault describes his system: 94S + 47 3's + 33%OR + 25SD + 32 TO's = W The ‘Formula for Success' has withstood the test of time. Since 1996, whenever the Pioneers have attempted 94 shots, with half of those shots from behind the arc, offensive rebounded 33% of their missed shot attempts, taken 25 more shots than their opponent and forced the opposition into committing 32 turnovers, they have won at nearly a 95% clip. Read the rest on after the jump... |

None of the above. It wouldn't have been a wasted vote. Obama and Romney -- Those were the wasted votes. |

They were discussing this on sports radio today as I was coming home from work. Taylor would press (along with the rest of the team) until the ball got to the half court line, then he'd stay on the other side and wait for the ball to come back for an uncovered 3 attempt.
The reason the guy on the other team scored 70 pts was because they were giving him uncontested layups so they could get the ball back to Taylor quicker for a 3 point attempt. If they got an offensive rebound they would kick it back out to Taylor even if they had an uncontested layup available.
If I'd been the other team I'd have put all 5 guys on him... |

What bothered you the most, Kobe cheating on his wife or the poor girl that got bent over the chair against her will? |

I was talking about his me-me-me approach to basketball. It's perfect for the basketball-is-five-individuals NBA, but I effin' hate it. When basketball is played as a team, it's a magical sport. When it's played by 5 grown men who treat it as an kind of public masturbation, it's as bad as sports can get. |

It's obvious they aren't going to shoot so they can feed this one guy. They lost the game AND got the record set against them. |

The team they were playing was 0-4 going into the game, and I suspect that had something to do with the coach deciding to feed this one player during this game. |
