I think you are still missing the point of the thread. It was disproving the notion that we didn't run the slants and quick routes because the coverage prevented it, when it didn't. There was room for the routes easily. Not that on every play a slant is a guaranteed completion.

As for the rest. I would hope that if we started running slants, that the defenses would adjust, because in doing so, it opens up other routes, like the slugo and it makes passing holes bigger if they do. If Rodgers starts throwing the ball basically when he gets the ball, it also makes the defense pass rush think about blocking the quick passes instead of rushing. Which makes the Oline's life easier. Slants can also be run from every receiver position except TE.

That would be our offense dictating what the defense has to do, instead of just calling plays that fall right into what the defense wants us to do.

Vanilla answer.. but the point Twins is trying to make... even though I disagree with the assessment of the effectiveness of their press.

Quote:
2. What has been the biggest issue in beating Cover 2 defenses this season?

CLEMENTS: I don't know if you can put your finger on one point. Obviously, a team that plays Cover 2, they're in defend mode. Hopefully what they're trying to do is get a pass rush with their front four. They have five guys underneath and two guys deep. A lot of times, the holes are there underneath, and that's where they're vulnerable. Obviously, down the middle and the side, they try to take that into account as they play those defenses and are hoping that you have to hold the ball a little longer than their rush can impact the timing of the play.

I think there was a wake up call for the coaching staff as well.. bring it or go home.

...Even though we can't protect the QB against their front four, which means that getting the ball out on short patterns would be even that much MORE advisable.

12+ games too fucking late, but I hope you're right.

Which makes it that much more mindblowing.

Are we not 3 games above .500?

Why so serious.. all the matters this season for the Packers is 2 things.

1. We make the playoffs.

2. We learn enough along the way and get ourselves square for the playoffs to play any style of game we need to in order to win that game.

I would love to dominate each week... I would love to be undefeated right now.. but I also know that it is about getting right going into the dance in this league right now. There are no dominate teams.. the talent level across the boards isn't the vast from team to team overall. Holes exist on every team, their is a book on how to beat them. To date, we haven't got right in order to beat a team that you have to run against to beat them. But it is coming.. the carries per game establish that the Packers have learned that lesson.. they also learned this past Sunday that they have work to do yet.

I like our chances this season better than last season. Honestly I do.

It's "great news" that we "haven't peaked" yet.

But it's getting to be that time.

I still think part of the problem is not so much the mix between "slants" and other pass plays, but between calling those slants out of the shotgun and calling them when the QB is under center.

If the QB is under center, the DBs have to be right on the line of scrimmage jamming to frustrate the slant's timing. But if the QB is several yards back, it takes more time for the ball to get from the center's hands to the point of release from the quarterback's hands. In that time, the DB playing back a few yards has time to diagnose the slant and using his closing speed to frustrate the slant.

When the offense runs slants from under center, the defense has one way to defend the slant -- press coverage. When the offense runs slants from shotgun, they have two.

I agree with everything you said here. But "why so serious?" I've been getting more and more worried as time has gone on. Not because OH SHIT WE LOST A GAME but we lost a game due to the same damn reasons we are always losing them. If we lost to the giants games for all brand new issues we haven't seen with our team yet this year I would be ok with it. But the fact that it's the same shit over and over worries me because I can't fathom how the coaching staff hasn't fixed those issues when they have been so glaring all year.

I know, I know, double post, etc. but this article is actually awesome for what I just said above and what this entire thread is about.

So McCarthy will have to adjust his play calling and blocking scheme to help his injury-diminished offensive line protect Rodgers in the home stretch of the season.

“I think there’s a lot of pride in that group,” Rodgers said Wednesday about the offensive line, “and we have some veteran guys, some guys that played a lot of football. We’re going to do a better job of putting them in situations where they can be successful. We’ve talked about some things already and hopefully we can protect a little better, get it out a little quicker and be a little more efficient on offense.”

Nice to see. 16 sacks in the first 3 weeks of the season for the exact same reason as this, but it takes 12 weeks to think about making adjustments.

Yes, GET IT OUT A LITTLE QUICKER! Because, well see below...

Quote:
McCarthy, though, has shown no inclination to leave Lang at left guard and play either of the backup offensive linemen, undrafted rookies Don Barclay and Greg Van Roten, at right tackle.

Ok, THIS suggests, to me (and call me crazy) that neither Don Barclay nor Greg Van Roten are as good as Lang at that position. I would further hypothesize that they both totally suck shit and are incompetent at that position on the NFL level.

Quote:
“Our offensive line performance Sunday was not our best performance,” McCarthy said. “It wasn’t our best performance as a whole offense, and you can start with me. When we line up Sunday, we’ll be playing with the same people.”

Ok, so THIS is what we got, from here on out. No Cliffy. Next man up is one of the dudes they are already afraid to put out there. I'd actually like to see Barclay or Van Roten out there for a series or two, just to see what we've got. Break the suspense, if you will. But I suppose that would strategically reveal to other teams the huge secret of their shit suckage.

I'll still be watching.

uffda udfa (1h) : Julio with Rodgers would be out of this world. We'll never know, though.
Zero2Cool (2h) : Jordy, the real #1 got his before him so he is more elite. Deal with it. Game time coming!
uffda udfa (2h) : Another #1 gets his $Julio Jones signs 5-year extension; $47M in guarantees
uffda udfa (6h) : They don't Steve...but Wilde had Guion as "IN"
sschind (9h) : guy will be ready injury wise by week 4 have him toke up and get caught.
sschind (9h) : how soon before teams start asking players to violate policy so they can keep them on the team and not have to countthem on the active roste
steveishere (10h) : I don't think suspended players count toward the 53
uffda udfa (19h) : Incredible! Wilde's 53 man roster doesn't even have Datone Jones as "IN"...he's "looking good". Sad, a 3rd year 1st rounder isn't a lock f

uffda udfa (27-Aug) : He works boundary...great body control...great feet...goes deep...runs well...is strong. Jordy Clone, maybe.
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : Tell me he doesn't remind you of 87...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zPZNolFvPI
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Only thing that matters : 40 Yrd Dash: 4.54
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : Butler is 6'2 215...Hmmm, wonder what TT has in mind. Ha.
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : TT went out and got us Jordy's replacement...James Butler...not even a camp invite.
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : I knew what you were saying and I loved it! From a production standpoint it was worse than college radio. It had Aaron which made it worth
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : I wouldn't know good radio if it sat on my face, but I know what I find informational and worthwhile. Tuesday with Aaron, was both.
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : I am saying my zero experience in radio > your whatever years. :D Bahahahahah
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : Ha! Yeah, I only was involved in making good radio for 8 years. Don't know a thing.
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : Yeah, I'm not surprised I know good radio better than you. Not a big deal, you have your strengths, radio isn't one.
uffda udfa (27-Aug) : We have very different tastes. I worked in radio for many years. Thought the show was so much worse than it needed to be.
Zero2Cool (27-Aug) : NFL Pick'em v2.0 is here!
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : Wilde was great choice and if not for Jason's rapport with Aaron, never would have happened.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : I never caught it live...listened to podcast a few times. Wilde was the wrong guy for that show.
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : That was poorly worded, my mistake. I was regular, it was great peak into his life. Planned meetings around it lol
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : As for Tuesday's with Aaron I did listen, but I wasn't a regular.
Smokey (26-Aug) : Anyone seen Polargrizzz lately, he's AWOL !
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : If you listened to them, Aaron urged them to go past the 10 minutes. Jason would be an idiot to cut it off.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : The contract stated 10 minutes but the show always went longer. Sounds like 540 took advantage and perhaps he got sick of it.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : As for Aaron's radio show, sounds like he just didn't want to do it and they took too much of his time. Was only supposed to be 10 minutes.
Smokey (26-Aug) : Don't worry, be WR happy !
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : WR!!
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : LeRoy Butler and Finley want TT to add a WR. Silverstein wrote a piece on it, including Rison mention. Let's get this!
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : The WHY is the big story, but that hasn't come out yet.
