That'd be 60"er. Never short a man his actual inches, Wade. Big Grin

I've never had elk, but would love to try it.

What i have learned over the years about venison is this: do NOT over cook it! It's a very lean meat, and if you over cook it it will be dry and tough. I like it rare to medium rare.

Also, cook only as much as you are going to eat at one sitting. It does not reheat in the microwave well at all. Again, it will be dry and tough.

I also like to slow cook the roasts in beef broth for about 12 hours. Makes it really good! Put in some small red taters and some onions, and carrots, and you have a great meal.

None of the above. It wouldn't have been a wasted vote. Obama and Romney -- Those were the wasted votes.

au contraire, I find it hysterically funny.

I was coming home this past week and saw one on these deer lights setting out by the curb for garbage pickup. One of his back legs had been broken. I sure he suffered greatly before they put him down.
One does not simply walk into Mordor.

I drove up to Pembine for the 4 day "antlerless" hunt. I went up on Friday, and was gonna sleep in my car over night if i didn't get anything Friday so i could hunt Saturday.

I sat all day from 6am on, on the edge of a fire lane. That way i could watch south and west for anything crossing the lane. I was the ONLY hunter out there. It was about 25 degrees, and i was pretty comfortable. Didn't see anything though. Had foot warmers in my boots to keep my feet warm. Just after 2pm, my right hand got really cold, so i took off my glove, stuck it inside my coat, and then worked my hand through all my layers of clothes to put my hand under my left arm to warm it. Of couse that was all it took....i looked up, and there, 55 yards down the fire lane right in the middle of it was a nub buck! Just standing there looking at me.
So i SLOWLY pulled my hand out, SLOWLY reached down and picked up the rifle from my lap, and SLOOOOOWLY brought the scope up to my face. Just as i got the scope on the deer, it turned and ran back from where it came. But i followed it and made a perfect shot, dropping it litterally 2 feet off the fire lane.
I field dressed it, and was able to drive my car right up to it. No dragging like the opening day doe i got.
It's been 13 years since i got more then one deer in any season.
A friend of mine paid for the processing of BOTH deer, as long as i share the venison with him!
