I don't know about the rest of you, but I thought Shields had just as good a game last night as Tramon. Tramon got the intense duty of trying to shut down Megatron, but Shields took his job back from House last night - and we have a very, very good cover secondary going into the playoffs - probably best in the league with House and Hayward. The young bucks cut their teeth while Shields was injured and it will be playing huge dividends moving forward. Bush can concentrate on covering kicks.

It was awesome having him back and making some big plays last night. Getting Woodson back next week lets us take MD off the field finally.

Woody + Tramon + Sammy + Burnett + Hayward + House

damn.

edit: that being said, Bush is awesome at punt coverage, and he has made some big plays for us in recent years when playing on Defense. Ever since the Superbowl I refuse to hate on him.

We may not have a stud like Woodson once was, there aren't many like that, but there is good talent with good depth developing.

imagine how much better they would look if our front 7 was decent.

the lack of pass rush is amazing.

I see them again getting better after this draft, Perry's return, plus another year of experience for our young players.

Does Woodson return to a prominent role? To be honest, his play was not exemplary before he got hurt this year. Maybe the change in position, but maybe age? So does he return in a limited role now? Safety in base 3-4? Out on most passing downs? Unless blitzing?

Seems rash, but these 'kids' are doing a pretty good job.

Well said, and I agree. They are really looking strong, and will only get better.

How good was that to see Shields come back strong! Not a question... Just awesome.

The only down side I see is only one true Safety. Woodson has played S but his best role is clearly the nickle hybrid S/LB role...

So to get all them on the field at once they'll ether have to keep Woodson back, go to a one Safety look (which Capers has done in the past for short periods) or be creative positions package.

Like a package where Woodson is playing LB (with Hayward in the hybird position)...

I think the one Safety look one is the most likely. I remember the Packers running a 2-4 nickel set, where both OLBers moved up to the line and a Safety moved up and lined up with the Lbers giving it a 4-3 look with 3 CBs and One Safety formation. And if the DBs are good enough in man with out help over the top, they can do that and get away with it.

Woody's gonna provide experience and veteran savvy during the playoffs.

The young guys are gonna learn plenty from him.

I understand leadership and experience. But there is an advantage to youth and speed also. Results have been pretty good without him on the field.

I would say he is the 5th best corner right now, behind Williams, Shields, Hayward, and House. At best, 2nd Safety, but probably 3rd. Maybe the best blitzer among the DB's, but...

He is starting to remind me of Donald Driver. Is this his last year with the Pack? He is due to earn 10M next year and in 2014. The NFL is about youth and $. Charles is at the wrong end of each.

The issue is, the only time I notice MD Jennings on the field is when hes doing something terrible

Why do we look better this season?

Part is definitely the players added to the backend. There is little doubt about the talent of the young players thrust into roles.

But part of that is also, to date we have been playing a majority of man with little zone sprinkled in. Last season, I truly believe Capers was trying anything to mask talent gaps and injuries (Williams shoulder as a major and Collins going down) with complex schemes that added confusion.

That has cleaned up much of the communication issues coupled with better tackling overall.

My concern is in the playoffs we will be forced into a zone scheme to try and offset the opposing offenses and we will struggle with it. That said.. being 4 deep at CB, 5 if you put Woodson in the slot.. that should allow us to remain in man in most cases.

Either way.. we still have been pretty solid with our pass rush being somewhat neutered by injuries.. we are getting some of that pop back so we should only improve at the right time.

Let the speedy youths play CB.

Charles can play S.

uffda udfa (39m) : Tell me he doesn't remind you of 87...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zPZNolFvPI
Zero2Cool (39m) : Only thing that matters : 40 Yrd Dash: 4.54
uffda udfa (42m) : Butler is 6'2 215...Hmmm, wonder what TT has in mind. Ha.
uffda udfa (44m) : TT went out and got us Jordy's replacement...James Butler...not even a camp invite.
uffda udfa (9h) : I knew what you were saying and I loved it! From a production standpoint it was worse than college radio. It had Aaron which made it worth
Zero2Cool (9h) : I wouldn't know good radio if it sat on my face, but I know what I find informational and worthwhile. Tuesday with Aaron, was both.
Zero2Cool (9h) : I am saying my zero experience in radio > your whatever years. :D Bahahahahah
uffda udfa (9h) : Ha! Yeah, I only was involved in making good radio for 8 years. Don't know a thing.
Zero2Cool (10h) : Yeah, I'm not surprised I know good radio better than you. Not a big deal, you have your strengths, radio isn't one.
uffda udfa (19h) : We have very different tastes. I worked in radio for many years. Thought the show was so much worse than it needed to be.
Zero2Cool (19h) : NFL Pick'em v2.0 is here!
Zero2Cool (22h) : Wilde was great choice and if not for Jason's rapport with Aaron, never would have happened.
uffda udfa (22h) : I never caught it live...listened to podcast a few times. Wilde was the wrong guy for that show.
Zero2Cool (23h) : That was poorly worded, my mistake. I was regular, it was great peak into his life. Planned meetings around it lol
uffda udfa (23h) : As for Tuesday's with Aaron I did listen, but I wasn't a regular.
Smokey (26-Aug) : Anyone seen Polargrizzz lately, he's AWOL !
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : If you listened to them, Aaron urged them to go past the 10 minutes. Jason would be an idiot to cut it off.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : The contract stated 10 minutes but the show always went longer. Sounds like 540 took advantage and perhaps he got sick of it.
uffda udfa (26-Aug) : As for Aaron's radio show, sounds like he just didn't want to do it and they took too much of his time. Was only supposed to be 10 minutes.
Smokey (26-Aug) : Don't worry, be WR happy !
Zero2Cool (26-Aug) : WR!!
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : LeRoy Butler and Finley want TT to add a WR. Silverstein wrote a piece on it, including Rison mention. Let's get this!
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : The WHY is the big story, but that hasn't come out yet.
Zero2Cool (25-Aug) : noooooooooooooooooooo!
Zero2Cool (25-Aug) : Aaron is done? Why????
uffda udfa (25-Aug) : If you liked "Tuesday's with Aaron" he's not doing it this year. He's done.
Zero2Cool (23-Aug) : Tolzien being evaluated for concussion. What?
hardrocker950 (23-Aug) : wow... what a joke
dhazer (23-Aug) : Cheese heads are everywhere donot be sureprised ifor we are louder
Zero2Cool (23-Aug) : And you're wearing a Ben jersey... sad!
dhazer (23-Aug) : Hello from Heinz field
dhazer (23-Aug) : Anyone else going to be at the big ketchup bottle of Heinz Field
Mucky Tundra (23-Aug) : TEBOW!
