Yes and perhaps the reason Jenkins wanted it BEFORE the market set his worth, is because he wanted to get more than the market would allow.

Keeping Jenkins would have been great, but Ted has a list of priorities. Who do you want to let go in order to keep Jenkins?

No question, retaining Cullen Jenkins would have been great. However, when a player wants a contract before free agency, it is because they are over valuing themselves. The same can be said inversely about the organization wanting to resign them before free agency as their urgency comes from being outbid.

I don't fault Jenkins, nor the Packers. Packers had to be smart, and Jenkins approaching 30, coming off a Super Bowl win ... wanted to cash in. I can't fault him for that.

As for failing to recover from a loss of one player, quit your search at Nick Collins. It really is a bummer people fail to recognize the talent and leadership he had and his importance to the team and instead bestow that credit to ... Cullen freaking Jenkins.

The loss of Nick Collins cannot be underscored enough when looking to what happened to us defensively last year, I totally agree. However, our secondary would have suffered even with him in the lineup due to the loss we suffered in our pass rush by not adequately replacing Jenkins.

We can certainly agree to disagree on Cullen Jenkins. But, I was sick seeing how stuck management was on not being more proactive in keeping us in play for Jenkins' services. As a matter of fact, we were quite the opposite. I knew his injury history as well as any fan of the Packers. I just happened to think he was a far more important part of our defense, one we should not be without if we were looking to repeat, in spite of the injuries he fought through in his career with GB. And I felt that way before it all hit, while the posturing was happening. But, that's all history.

Enough with that.

As for the OL, I often wonder about the true talent level. A different approach to the Giants, one where we ran far more might have helped. A more aggressive, run blocking dominant game plan. Had we stuck with the run, maybe this thread wouldn't exist... know what I mean? Maybe our guys aren't as bad as they were made out to be after giving up on the run.

Sunday was tough to gauge, being the train wreck that it was... Was it the talent level at numerous positions? The coaching? The approach? The injuries? Or, just the perfect storm?

Nick was a once in a generation talent.

What happened to him was imho unnecessary, which makes it hurt that much more.

With all these losses, we're still in it. THANK YOU TED THOMPSON!

Is anybody else concerned about our DL depth, especially at NT? I'm starting to get more concerned about Pickett and Raji making it through the season, and having enough juice to be effective in a playoff run.

These are players I would consider signing to finish out the season: Howard Green and Daniel Muir
They are known quantities, and I think they would both like to get the shot to contribute. I'd rather have either one over WR Jeremy Ross or LB Vic So'oto, both of whom occupy roster spots. Hell, I'd rather add BOTH Muir and Green... give Pick & Raji some rest.

Others:
Gerard Warren
Phillip Merling (DE)
Brian Price (2010 2nd Rnd pick by TB)
Nick Hayden (former Badger)
Jimmy Kennedy (former Ram and 1st round pick 2003, played with Pickett)
Lamar Divens and Carlton Powell might be worth kicking tires on.
Antonio Dixon ? Young guy who may be of service. Former Eagle.

Me. The good news is that we made it through a week without any new injuries. But our depth on the defensive line is a huge concern - if someone else goes down, I hope we don't need to go into the psycho package regularly just to generate pressure.

Did the psycho package even generate pressure when we used it?

To all those wishing Ted had given pretty big money to Jenkins, who would you then not like to be able to sign? Rodgers? Matthews? Jennings?

Because the problem is, when you develop good players, you have to give them big money or replace them. If you give one big money, you are probably forced to let 2 others go.

Went 15-2 last year without Jenkins. Think most teams would trade records with us?

The money was not the factor. Zero has mentioned many times that GB offered Jenkins more than what he took with Phil.
He had his prided hurt because GB didn't pony up more and quicker than what they did so he went on to Phil and what was suppose to be this great dream team.

One has to think now the Hargrove's suspension has been lifted.. we might be inclined to take another run at him.

Porf, just added some options to my last post, but dropping them here as well.

The thing I don't get, is we knew Raji needed less reps this season. We also knew Pickett was super valuable, and not getting any younger. As this season has worn on, we've kept some players out to save reps on their bodies till late season/playoffs to keep them fresh. I just do not get how we are overlooking Pick and Raji with regards to this.

Ted, sign Green and Muir, and give us a better chance to hold the middle of our D for the run!!!

Hargrove may have worn out his welcome by being insubordinate to the coaching staff.

Suspension wasn't really an issue, he has been available this entire time as the appeals have been going on. But I do agree, he might be an option. If either Neal or Wilson can't make it back, or even if they both can, the added depth on the Dline could be useful in the playoffs.

They have been rotating them pretty well. Remember Raji missed a couple games also.

Raji has the highest snap count of the Dline at 508 of a total of 860 snaps for the defense or about 59%. Pickett is 2nd with 464 snaps 53.9%, followed by Worthy at 410, 47.6% though Worthy has also been on 110 special teams snaps.

No, the deal was all about money. It's just that Jenkins was offering a discount if the Pack gave him a long-term contract. So we would have a 30+ yr old player with an injury history tying up cash long term. Again, Jenkins or Rodgers or Matthews or Jennings? Because you can't have them all.

Jenkins was coming off a year in which he had only played 11 games. In fact, he had played in only 31 games in the last 3 years. There is no way to know that he would be able to play the full schedule in the future as he has done the past 2 years.

I do believe his suspension carried through regardless of being on a team's active roster. I thought that was posted somewhere here ... not sure though and I have to fix the Search feature ... again ... cuz the host screwed it up.

Regardless of whether he was available some of not, I'm sure the uncertainly pushed some teams away as well. No organization wants to deal with a player that may or may not be suspended randomly in the future. At least when there is something concrete, they can play accordingly.

My understanding on Hargrove is that his suspension time served only counted off if he was on an active roster. It was lifted during the appeal but I think teams might have been leery of signing him then having to deal with the suspension that could have been reinstated at any time.

1996 - Andre Rison
2010 - Howard Green
2012 - ...

Starks coming in and playing well also helped a lot in 2010.

2012:
Ryan Grant (heck all of the RBs if they get it moving)
Don Barclay
All of the CBs

As for linemen... I think we need more (and better) pass rushers... both on the DL and OLB.
OL needs more depth everywhere though we might be developing some of it if they would just get healthy and stay healthy...

Yep! OK. So, Ted went with the PS promotion. He likes the youth, and the staff knows what they are getting with his having been in the system.

"Miller, a 6-foot-1, 309-pound first-year player out of Southern University, was signed to Green Bay's practice squad on Oct. 23. He spent the first 15 games of the 2011 season on Chicago's practice squad before being signed to the Bears' active roster for the season finale (inactive). Miller was with the Bears during the 2012 preseason until he was released on Aug. 31, 2012. He originally entered the league with Chicago as a non-drafted free agent on July 27, 2011. Miller will wear No. 91 for the Packers."

Good to have some help on the DL.

Here are his stats at Southern:

Jordan Miller - 2010 Senior - Nose Tackle for Southern University

2010 STATS
32 tackles
7 sacks
15 Tackle for Loss
5 QB Hurries

CAREER STATS (2008-2010)
90 tackles
15.5 sacks
27.5 Tackles for Loss
10 Hurries

These are pretty good for playing NT, which was his position at Southern. Hopefully he will be able to give us some production in the rotation. I bet this former Bear will be motivated to make an impact here Sunday, playing his old team.
