Much to the dismay of many ... there is not a better Kicker available. Packers are stuck with Mason Crosby. |

Somebody mentioned Billy Kundoff as being the only kicker with worse stats than Mason this year. Yet when Chicago needed a kicker last week he was one of 3 or 4 guys who was invited to try out. Obviously the opnions that count have decided Crosby is The Packers best option moving forward. Hell if they got rid of Crosby, then who would people have to gripe about? Now if Al Del Greco "The greatest football player ever" was available I'd be sayin' bye bye Mason!!!! Edited by member Monday, December 17, 2012 6:25:07 PM(UTC)

it is his last two kicks of 40-49 that bother me the most. 0-2 and he shows signs of lack of confidence. |

I'm thinking trial by fire isn't the best approach. There have been 134 50+ attempted this year, with 81 being made in the league (60%). I agree with what you're saying to an extent. The 55 yarders are maybe excessive and that hasn't helped his cause, but he's paid to make kicks. If you eliminate ALL of Mason's 50+ yarders, and then compare him to the rest of the league ( NOT selectively removing their 50 yarders) he's STILL tied for #28 in the league out of 31 in fg % How can there not be better options available? |

I wouldn't say we are without options. If Crosby has just one more bad game v. TEN, I would not hesitate to bring Longwell in to kick all of our FGs, and release WR Ross. Keep Crosby for KOs. Use Longwell for FGs. We have to have some decent measure of confidence that we can make 30-50 yd FGs in the playoffs.
Hell, I wouldn't wait. I'd make that move now. Get Longwell acclimated back in GB. This game v. TEN is as important to us as any right now. We must insure we stay ahead of SEA, and at least try to get ahead of SF.

The Bears got Olindo Mare from his couch and made 2 fgs. If you actually think one of the FA kickers out there can't make more than 50% of their fgs, you are out of your mind. We don't need a Pro Bowler, we need someone who can make a 40 yard fg on a consistent basis.

For the record, you cannot have Solid to Pro Bowl players at every position. I would MUCH rather have a Solid OL and a mediocre Kicker than a Solid Kicker and a mediocre OL. $$$ is limited. I'd bet in the offseason, goes for D and OL and we keep Crosby. Had our OL been even above average, we wouldn't be having this discussion. We'd be blowing out teams left and right. Our D is above average now and the ONLY thing holding us back on O is our OL. |
My man Donald Driver (thanks to Pack93z for the pic) 2010 will be seen as the beginning of the new Packers dynasty. |

We don't need a Pro Bowler, we need someone who can make a 40 yard fg on a consistent basis. only stupid people claim others opinions are stupid, so there. and Crosby is fine with 40 yard field goals, its when you go 42, 43 and higher that he gets a little bit tricky lol ... and if its 50+ ... punt instead 20-29 4 of 4 - 100% 30-39 5 of 7 - 71.4% 40-49 7 of 10 - 70% 50+ 1 of 8 - 12.5% 20-49 16 of 21 - 76.2% So, he's already above 50%, but really, I think a kicker needs to be 83% or higher on those. And missing two out of seven between 30-39 ... just feels shitty to me. I'd like to see the Packers bring in a kicker to at least try someone else out. |
