So I heard on Bill Michaels on my drive home.

If the Packers win the next two games, Both coaches will have the exact same regular season record at this point in their careers. 75 wins, 27 loses.

Holmgren had 14 playoff games, in 6 of the 7 years with a record of 9-5. 3 appearances in NFC Championships, 2 Superbowls with 1 win.

McCarthy is currently at 8 playoff games, guaranteed a 9th. The potential for 12 playoff games, 3rd NFC championship, and 2nd super bowl appearance (possible 2nd win), and record of 8-4.

when you think about it, it is amazing how close the 2 coaches and teams are in results.

Add the Wolf and Thompson comparisons... it is very uncanny. Right down to obtaining their signature move in the first year on the job.. the QB's of tenure.

The difference was that Wolf built the team through free agency. Basically the mid 90's Packers were stacked, especially on defense.

That and both changed defenses mccarthy 4th year, holmgren 3rd. both won the superbowl in 5th season.

It was a different time, Wolf also had to figure out how to navigate the Salary Cap.

Ron Wolf built his team through the draft, much like Ted Thompson, however, Wolf used Free Agency to plug in necessary holes where Thompson looks at undrafted players to do the same, lol.

both coaches and both GM excelled at their jobs. The franchise and fans are lucky to have such fine leadership so close in time to each other. Other franchises go decades between them.

What was that one comment from another fan? Something like "must be hard being a fan of a team that has had an elite QB starting for them every game but one in the last 25 years" lol

I can't feel sorry for the fans of other franchises. Ever single team could have draft Favre since Atlanta took him in the 2nd round. They all of them could have traded for him.
23 other teams could have selected Aaron but chose not to. If they would have offered enough for him, any of the teams could have traded for Aaron Rodgers.

Pfft, maybe if they offered $1 Billion and sent Adrian Peterson, Tom Brady, Payton Manning, and Calvin Johnson our way.

I believe McCarthy will FAR surpass Holmgren in terms of success. Great to see the comparison to date, and how strikingly similar their records are.

Yet, McCarthy seems to have a far better makeup as a head coach. He has an entirely different demeanor. Holmgren seemed more megalomaniacal, wanting all the power in both coaching and personnel. McCarthy seems to have a greater love of coaching in general. Being a good Head Coach, the best he can be, seems to be his sole motivation. As a HC he just wants to win. Period. Mike McCarthy has a great professionalism about his approach, and we can all be grateful for that.

That, and I'm still waiting for the explanation of why we quit running the ball in SBXXXII from Holmgren, the arrogant prick. I think McCarthey has it a little more difficult because Holmgren took over a franchise that had been dog shit for 25 years, McCarthey has to coddle a spoiled fan base.
