I am a sport nut... but just not nutty enough to enjoy hockey or soccer. Tried.. failed. I went a couple of Green Bay Gambler games in my second stint in Green Bay.. I just could never build a passion.

One thing I think the NHL did.. is lessen its fan base a little further with the labor disagreement. But the hardcore fans... I am happy for you.

As a fan totally annoyed. Even though the rink is only 15 minutes away I don't see myself going to any Ottawa Senators games in awhile. A rushed NHL season will be terrible and for a gate driven league the fans will bear the brunt of paying huge ticket prices (in Canada anyway) for a lousy product as they play 3 games every 4 nights. Since over half the teams make the playoffs it will feel like the playoffs are as long as the regular season. Oh joy. Love hockey, but the total disrespect of the fans by both the players and owners has left me a little bitter. Expect most if not all Canadian and Northern US teams to make the playoffs to ensure decent revenues for the league. Reffing in the NHL is slightly better than that of pro-wrestling and often feels as fixed. Also, those lousy 3 point tie games will become even more annoying this year as everyone pushes to get at least a point every night---good for gamblers I guess if you can bet on a tie in regulation. Not as annoyed as when baseball shitcanned the playoffs when my Expos were in first place, but pissing off Canadians when it comes to hockey is a bad business move.

Can't blame you Kanata.. But I guess I fail to see how only the northern teams will make the playoffs.. San Jose and the Stars are only but two southern teams that have been historically pretty good off the top of my head. And I know Nashville is gaining some steam too. I'm with you on the rest of your post, though.

You are weird. How do you NOT like hockey? Even my anti-sport fan of a wife loves her some hockey.

I think Hockey games are more intense, especially when the opponent has the puck near your teams goal. We took the girls to the Championship (which the Gamblers won) and it was great. I've been to a few games and I'm typically on the edge of my seat most of the game.

The difference between playoff hockey and regular season is fucking pathetic.

Exactly. Especially playoff hockey. There are spells in almost every football game where it calms down (intensity/stress), especially in a game that employs a 2+ score lead. In hockey.. Even when a team is down 2 or 3, it doesn't take much for goals to roll in.

I only watch during the playoffs (same with baseball and basketball for that matter) because it seems more exciting. There's more on the line.

Hockey playoffs are too long. Hockey should end in March or April, not June.

With the shortened season, the regular season should be a bit more intense for you rabid.

That said.. I'm really.. REALLY pumped about my team. Not only do they look good now, but they have prospects in the wings that will be stars in the league as well. Talks of a start of an NHL dynasty. Time will tell.
