I think play to win is right. I think Jennings
has an inflated opinions of himself and will want
the moon. seems like his talk has been
towards his wanting out of Green Bay.
I think he's good, but his attitude this season
has been strange.
I don't see Ted overpaying for him.
besides the fact that gb needs a full
defensive overhaul. I don't know if they
can get enough defense pieces to fix
the problems they have to be competitive
with the higher tier teams.

It was kind of weird wasn't it Cheesey? I mean, I could see how he would have been a bit frustrated trying to come back from the groin injury, but he seemed like he wasn't all in with the rest of the team. I thought that was surprising. I like the player a lot, and wish he could recapture his will to win like he had in 2010, which was unmistakable. I just don't know if he will have that if he gets tagged. Might be best to move on now... Sadly. He's a great talent still.

A three year deal is all I'd offer Jennings and not at $10M per either. Just because he happens to be our top receiver at the moment doesn't justify overpaying him. The Wells and Jennings situation is a lot different because one of the strengths of the Packers is the depth of the WR position - but the depth of the OLine causes a lot of concern. The Packers should have franchised Wells. Who gives a shit about hurt feelings.

I would be for franchising Jennings for a year - but then he is gone anyway after that.

I wouldn't do a three year deal. I'd want to see that he can stay healthy, which is why I said the franchise tag. I do agree, I don't think he's worth $10 million a season. But the Packers have the room for 2013 (they won't in 2014) to absorb the franchise tag.

I also agree that Greg Jennings might have an inflated opinion of himself, as every player should. James Jones acknowledged a rude awakening during the off season. And rumor among NFL personnel is Jennings won't be the same WR without Aaron Rodgers.

Yeah, I read stuff like that too. The one problem with the franchise tag is that you can only use it once on a player, and by doing so, piss off that player so that they won't sign a longer deal with a team anyway and said player walks at the end of the season. Having a disgruntled player kills locker room morale and all you have done is rented a guy for a year. I'm not so sure the Packers treat people like this. The days of Walter Jones playing on one year contracts are over.

I don't see Jennings being tagged by the Packers. Jennings has already mentioned he doesn't want to be tagged and also has voiced his opinion about where he doesn't want to play (in the cold and some other factors). I am sure Ted Thompson sees it as wasted money to tag Jennings since he will just turn into a disgruntled player.

The Packers also showed that they can manage to make the offense work without him in the line up. I am not saying that the Packers are better without Jennings, because they aren't. However, he is worth more to another team (Minnesota, Arizona, Miami, Houston, etc) than he is to the Packers and those teams are going to give him his pay day whether we or any analyst/scout thinks otherwise.

-Check Arizona off that list...thought it made sense since Jennings trained with Fitz in the off-seasons. Link

-This just screams Jennings to Minny... Link

-Why not a reunion with Philbin in Miami? Who cares if they aren't contenders...they have a ton of cap and of course, Jennings sister requested it! Link

-Houston Texans...a contender, warm weather, a dome, a nice pay day...Jennings desires all of those. Link

I don't know the state of all these teams...who they have to restructure, resign, cut, etc...but I think it is fair to say that these teams are more desirable than the Packers to Greg Jennings. He has expressed his feelings and I think we will see Greg in a different jersey for the 2013 season.

Where has Jennings said he does not want to be tagged? I think it's likely he has said it, as most players don't want to be, especially players closing in on 30. I just don't remember him once addressing it. (doesn't mean much, I forgot what I had for lunch) Edit, found it!
"I know one way I don't want to be here is under a franchise tag."

Where has Jennings said he desires a dome, warm weather (he's from/lives in Michigan) and to have a nice pay day? I think the latter is implied when he says he has to do what is best for himself an his family, but I can't remember him ever saying he wants to be on a contender that has a dome and is in warm weather.

Are these just assumptions of yours that you're stating as fact or is there some facts to support this? You have me curious and questioning my theory! haha

Play2win is right on again.
To me, it's ok if a player thinks he's good, if he backs it up on the field. But as was said, it didn't seem Jennings was "all in" on what was going on. And you would think, with his injury and all, that when he came back he would have tried to "prove" his worth, especially to other possible teams, by playing his best.
I myself didn't see that.

The dome and weather are assumptions of mine based off his comments coming after week 17. I understand its not an overall statement of "I'd rather play in a dome all the time" but I think with these quotes from Jennings it would be okay to assume he would prefer it all the time.

Jennings does state he does not want to play under the tag....found here

The nice pay day is also an assumption of mine as saying he has to do what is best for his family leads me to believe he is referring to bringing in the money. Being a contender is an assumption as well, but like I said with Miami, they are far from being a contender but can give Jennings a very nice contract. I just believe its a majority of the older players plan to find a good payday as well as a contender to get that last championship or two.

After reading some more quotes from Greg Jennings, I get the feeling he doesn't want to be a Packer any longer. This one here “I have 31 other teams that hopefully I can show them my résumé and then walk into the door and start back over,” comes off as such to me. The more I read, the more I think he wants to be a teams clear #1 go to guy. That's without factoring in his sisters tweets...

Scrap it ... I'd rather that money go to Matthews, Raji or Rodgers, hell, or even Finley. Say what you will about Finley, but at least he is definitive on wanting to be a Packer. (I think this indicates he's more wise than Jennings in understanding Rodgers is the key component to either of their success lol)

Bye Jennings ... Thanks Yerko for getting me to dig deeper!

His attitude lately is what has gotten to me as a fan and honestly now, I think he is toying with the fans. Just my opinion but taking a picture of your empty locker and asking fans to "like" it if you want him to stay or "comment" if you want him to play for another team is dumb. I believe a lot of his latest actions show he wants to have a fresh start somewhere and be THE GUY of that team. I was upset about the possibility of him going to another team before but when he doesn't want to be on the team I watch and like, it makes it a little easier to deal with his departure as a fan.

I've finally realized the best way to argue with you is to give you my opinion (which in time you'll learn to take as a fact :-k ) and then let you do all the work to prove my opinion right. This way you don't get mad at me, I don't have to get frustrated with you, and we're all happy!

I'm still waiting for all the Donald Driver fans that argued with me to let me know I was right last year already that he washed up, but that would actually take some cojones.

Woodson this year will be a much more difficult decision, but no way he deserves his cap number in 2013.

Yeah, it seems very unlikely that Jennings will be a Packer in 2013. As others have said, he's simply more valuable to other teams than he is the Packers, even if he isn't quite as valuable as he thinks. I really can't imagine some other team not offering him more than the Packers would. Actually, since the Bengals have so much cap space ($55 million that one article said), that could be a great location for him. AJ Green, Jennings, and Gresham would be a nice receiving core. Although, Red Dalton is not a championship QB. However, they would be "contenders," in theory. The Texans, Patriots, Dolphins, Vikings, Bears, etc. etc. etc. could all use a guy like that, and many could find a way to afford him. It will be interesting to see how it works out, but I don't see him as a Packer in 2013. The guy does seem to get open a lot, though.

The fact that you spout off so much, with no factual support is why I have difficulty trusting your comments. You shout your opinion as gospel, as fact and no other opinion is relevant that differs from yours. How many times have you cited a source to backup your opinions stated as facts? When have you taken the time to research an opinion of yours to find factual proof to support your intuition?

I know what I do not know. You slack that department. :)

That's not to say I don't enjoy your comments, because I do. I just don't put much trust into them being factually accurate, lol.

Anyone could find a way to fit him into their salary, the question is, what is the trade off and is the trade off worth it? Mathematically, I was thinking it would be fine considering his 2012 salary and the Donald Driver salary basically combine to equal the franchise tender. When reading his comments on being franchised, I had to discard my theory. Sure, not many players like the tag, but I've noticed Jennings being a lot more vocal this season than in years past. I could envision that being an issue.

So, after thinking more into it, I'd rather that tag cash of say $10 million allocated to some of our soon to be free agents to be after the 2013 season.

I'm a little surprised by that, but it is understandable. I'm on the fence, and would rather fit him into our cap than see him in a Bear or Viking uniform. That's for sure. MIA, CIN and the like I don't care too much about, but I'd hate to see him with a division rival. Maybe the only way to guard against that is the tag.

I do agree his attitude seemed different this last year. And, not in a good way.

Yeah, I understand any team COULD. But it would obviously be easier for a team like the Bengals who have large amounts of cap space available vs. a team like the Packers who have some space, but also have some huge money contracts coming up. Given the Packers current cap situation, other teams situations and needs at WR, and Jennings change in attitude, I just can't see him coming back. Let's be honest, if you were a Bengals, Dolphins, or almost any other team that could reasonably afford Jennings without losing anyone else, who wouldn't want him? I know if I was a fan of those teams I would want/expect "my" team to make an effort to sign him. He can still be a very effective player and a #1 WR, or elite #2, at worse. I hope Jennings finds what he is looking for. Unfortunately for all parties involved, I just don't think it's with the Packers. It happens. Hopefully the Packers are awarded a 3rd round compensatory pick for losing him though.

Well to quote Digs, Zero you wouldn't know a pigskin from a foreskin. So I'm suppose to bow down to your research? Screw that! I wasn't wrong on DD because I watched his decline to eventual suckage that we paid close to $2 million for this year. Yet everyone told me how wrong I was. We cut him two years too late - FACT, only you heard from me a long time ago. What else you have little boy? [grin1]

lol I never want anyone to bow to me, or my research, son. Who's talking about Donald Driver? Why do you keep beating that drum when you're the only one talking about him in a Greg Jennings thread? lol ... senile bastid! :P What you got on Greg Jennings, anything, huh? Yea....

I've already told you, but since you dismiss anything without research... [grin1]

We should make an effort to sign Greg to a three year deal. If he balks, then let him walk. Since you already flip flopped - your research and opinion have the credibility of Romney. I think we'll be seeing Nelson and Jones outside and Cobb and a rookie in the slot. Greg's toast. Fact. [-x

Let me get this straight. If I ignorantly ignore further information about a subject, I'm a stubborn unreasonable ass. However, if I am reasonable and re-evaluate a theory after more information has been introduced, I'm a flip-flopper with no credibility? It's like communicating with a woman! Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't!!

I'd like to see him here, if he wanted to be here. After reading his comments and listening to some of his recent interviews, I think mentally he's closed the door on the Packers chapter of his career and wants to move on.

I could see Jordy Nelson and James Jones starting, with Randall Cobb playing slot.
