He announced his plans to call it a career after the Pro Bowl. Not that he was coming back to the Packers next season, but this makes it official.

My question is.. will he be remembered more for his playing career or his role in the resolution of the lockout and his embrace of Robert Kraft?

He was as stand up as stand up gets. Glad he made a stop in Green Bay along the way. We can't know how his veteran leadership and experience might have helped some of our current players along the way.

Definitely his career. Peyton Manning is known for his mastery of offense and adjustments in general, but it was Saturday's ass he was holding the entire time. It requires an extremely intelligent individual to do that for so long.

saves a HoF player the embarrassment of being let go 2 years in a row by 2 different teams.

"To be eligible for the nominating process, a player or coach must have been retired at least four years. Any other contributor such as a team owner or executive can be voted in at any time. Unlike the Baseball Hall of Fame, which explicitly waives its five-year waiting period for players who die during that time or while active, the Pro Football Hall of Fame has no provision to waive its waiting period."
