from the Packer website.

Quote:
Driver has announced that his against-all-odds career has come to an end, with an official retirement ceremony slated for next Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

read the rest of the story as well.

DD is easily one of my all time favorite players. I will not have trouble wearing his jersey to games for many years to come.

The guy was an exceptional player and remains an exceptional person. We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch him play for the Packers, through quite an amazing career. I am SO glad he won a SB with us! Thank you Double D!

Glad he did the sensible thing and retired this year. Amazing player for years, amazing person still.

I feel like this deserves one last post.

SO gratifying to read this. Donald has been one of my favorite Packers for years, and I'm glad I won't have to see him languishing in that hideous purple uniform...

Congratulations, Donald Driver, on an excellent football career. Thank you for being a consummate Green Bay Packer.

I'm gonna miss him. In his prime he was such a beast. He should be a packers receiver coach.

no they need an OL coach very badly. He could not do any worse than Campen.

He should actually be a coach. I think some of Greg Jennings' success has been learning from Driver the moves he makes for all that YAC. I've seen other Packers receivers do it too. The only drawback is that there is sometimes too much dancing, but the Packers receivers have been relatively successful with YAC which I believe is thanks to Donald Driver.

Our WRs actually block pretty well, maybe DD should take over the position [grin1]

everytime i think of donald driver, it takes me back to the last Sunday before my dad passed away.
he was laying on the couch semi-comatose while i watched the Packers play. you see, i just had to be with my daddy during one more game.
favre threw a TD pass, i hollered, & my dad opened his eyes & said "was that driver?" i told him yes dad - driver did it again. he said "i really like that kid - he sure can catch". then closed his eyes again & went back in his coma-like state.
a precious moment i will never forget.
thank you so much for the memories 80.

You know.. a guy like Driver would really appreciate that story.

It amazes me just how intricate in nature the game is woven into the American fabric. Many a forever memory has ties to the game. Thanks for sharing.

DD has been a great player and a classy individual.
I hope the Packers find a place for him in the organization. He would be a great ambassador for the Packers, much like Bart Starr has been over the years.

Well, I think it ensures a long term relationship with the Packers and hopefully something in which Driver is very active with the organization and fans.

One can point directly to the Brett exit in terms of how it affected Driver's end of career decisions.

thanks for sharing this. I remember watching Cardinal's baseball with my Dad as he was slipping away. I came into his room and the game would be on but his eyes were closed. We would talk a bit and listen to the game a bit. That was a very difficult summer.

We use the phrase "Packer People" alot. Some of it is bullshit; some players are the example. Donald would definitely be my definition of the embodiment of the phrase.

A sad, but happy day in Packers news. Donald Driver will always be known as one of the greatest players in Packers history as well as the greatest person off the field. This guys character is just amazing. I am also hopefully he comes back to the Packers in some sort of coaching/small time front office role.

Not many players get to play their entire careers with one organization and call it quits with them after so many years today. This is certainly a special day for Driver and his family.

Illy.....this makes me appreciate the fact that I got to spend a game with you and your Dad. He was a great man, and did a great job raising you!

Driver will always be one of my favorite players. Even though he was a "star", he STILL (unlike many players today) took time for us fans, signing autographs and talking with us.
He's an example of how NFL players SHOULD be!

One of the all-time Packers. He'll definitely go down as among the most popular players in team history.
