After allowing Colin Kaepernick to set a new NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a playoff loss to the 49ers, the Packers know they have to get better at stopping running quarterbacks. And so their coaches are making like Rodney Dangerfield and going back to school.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy is sending his defensive staff to Texas A&M to study what makes the read-option offense work and what defenses can do to stop it.

“Definitely there’s a lot of conversation about the read option – rightfully so,” McCarthy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

How about outside containment?

I wish I could hit multiple applauses...

The joke, on us, was we had no one athletic enough to be a real and true spy on him, unless we had designated Matthews, which would have taken away any pass rush we had. In fairness, a real and true spy on a player like Kaepernick is not the easiest position to fill, as he is insanely talented.

We need better talent at ILB and OLB opposite Clay. Losing Nick Perry really hurt us, and I hope he returns healthy for a full, solid 2013 season. It would be smart to make sure we have another high quality OLB in addition to Perry, just to protect ourselves, and add to any rotation we might require, which we usually do.

McCarthy sending his staff down to Texas A & M for a refresher course is definitely a positive. That takes some stones in humility to do that.

Whats annoying is that the read-option is getting all the credit for killing us. If I remember right they only had 1 real successful read-option play all game. That was the one where Erik Walden decided to put his back to the ball carrier and let him run all the way down the field. The rest of the game was Colin just scrambling out of the pocket during regular old school pass plays because the Packers had no idea how to keep him in the pocket.

What's up with the hate on Brad Jones? He played well this year and showed that he was an ILB all along.

We pissed the game away.

If Mike McCarthy wants to win that game next time, cultivate some time of possession. Oh yeah and don't put a rookie back to return punts in the playoffs. Especially inside the 10.

Any returner shouldn't really be trying to catch the ball anyway once inside the 10. Let it go and hope for a touch back.

Spying's not the answer anyway. It's taking a player out of the defense which is going to hurt them on any play that the QB ISN'T running. Need to run more zone.

Kaepernick ran whenever he saw our defenders running down the field in man defense, with their backs turned toward the QB.

I forget who it was after the game (Gruden?) that he kept yelling at the TV to quit playing man-to-man.
