As explained by SI's Peter King, Brady's deal will pay him "significantly less than the market will bear," in an effort to ensure the Patriots stay competitive throughout the contract's life. Brady received an immediate $3 million signing bonus, but the new deal gives New England "massive cap relief" by reducing Brady's 2013-2014 salary cap numbers, freeing up $15 million over those two seasons. The Patriots should be active in free agency thanks to Brady. His 2013 cap number has been reduced from $22 million to $13.8 million
I really wish Rodgers would do something like this as well. |

Keep dreaming it won't happen, I remember when our old QB did this and he was signed for like 10 years to help with the cap. But you won't find this very often and if you think about it Brady wants his team to stay competitive and he will still be a very rich man. It just amazes me how the Pats pull this stuff out of their asses. They always seem to end up with awesome trades or free agency pickups. |
