If only Nick Collins could come back :/

Still think he was the best safety we ever had. At least he got a ring.

Don't be dissing Willie Wood. He was a stud. 8 times Pro Bowl. 5 time All Pro first team. 2 more on the 2nd team. 48 ints. When he played they had either 12 or 14 game seasons. Add another 26 games to his career in a pass happy league with a lot of weak qb's and he would be looking at 50 ints. Laugh

Hmmm.. really?

I will say he might have been the most athletic safety in terms of range we have ever had.. probably close to Sharper there.

But in terms of best overall.. Willie Wood and Leroy Butler would have to be ranked above him.. IMO.

I have to say NICK COLLINS.

I think it is disgusting how his career ended. But that's a different issue.

I will also say LEROY BUTLER. Dude was very, very underrated. Played much longer than Nick. Was all-90s and should be in the Hall.

As for Willie Wood, I never saw him play.

I would say Darren Sharper, but I'm not Darren Sharper.

I think Willie Wood is #1, with Leroy Butler #2. I always liked Mark Murphy, too...

1. Willie Wood (and it's not close)
2a. LeRoy Butler
2b. Nick Collins
4. Don Hutson
5. Darren Sharper (it pains me to say it)

Butler is a long-shot for the Hall (he belongs), but the voters are such stat-whores.
Sadly, Sharper has the stats and longevity that gives him a much better chance.

Some of my other favorites were Chuck Cecil, Jesse Whittenton (who passed in 2012), Doug Hart and Kenny Stills

I knew Don Hutson played defense, but didn't know he was that talented. From Wiki "On defense, Hutson was a very good safety who intercepted 30 passes over the final six years of his career. Hutson's highest season total was in 1943, when he intercepted eight passes in only 10 games. In 1940, he led the NFL with 6 interceptions."

uffda udfa (2h) : Packers brass potentially leaving? Not worthy of discussing. Pressure Cooker? Never enough talk about them.
Zero2Cool (7h) : Put Quintorris in a pressure cooker.
uffda udfa (11h) : Back to football: Julio says he's going to play Sunday. Did NOT say he wouldn't be limited in the game.
uffda udfa (11h) : Anyone ever used their dishwasher to make their Thanksgiving turkey?
uffda udfa (11h) : Favorite Ronnie Milsap song? Smokey Mountain Rain or Any Day Now?
uffda udfa (15h) : Favorite GM candidate... Wolf or Gutekunst?
uffda udfa (15h) : I'd rather sit them than play them too compromised.
uffda udfa (15h) : Yeah, Z. More pressure cooker talk and smoked turkeys.
Zero2Cool (15h) : If this were a regular-season game, Nelson, Adams and Allison probably would not play, MM says.
Smokey (16h) : Mason Crosby is ill, hope it's not the Flu.
Smokey (16h) : Great, can we move past that story and get back to the Atlanta game ?
Zero2Cool (17h) : Packers exec Eliot Wolf has withdrawn his name for 49ers' GM job, as @TomPelissero reported. He didn't feel it was the right time.
TheKanataThrilla (18h) : We'll just have to score TDs then.
Zero2Cool (18h) : That's what we know.
Zero2Cool (18h) : Crosby, Mason K Illness
Smokey (18h) : Is He ill or not ?
Smokey (18h) : Raiderpride asked, "Anyone know what Crosby's illness is?"
Zero2Cool (18h) : Davante Adams expected to play- KFFL
Porforis (19h) : Alright, my opinion on Jordy has changed. If he's medically cleared to play, play him.
hardrocker950 (21h) : By Sunday we won't have any WRs
Zero2Cool (21h) : Geronimo hamstring, Janis quad. BEAUTIFUL.
Smokey (21h) : Mason Crosby, is his health OK ?
Smokey (21h) : Hello
FLORIDA PACKER88 (22h) : Davis, G-Mo, and Janis will need to step up, but all three did score last time we played ATL!
FLORIDA PACKER88 (22h) : Does Janis become a playoff hero second year in a row? Looks we're gonna have to find out either way regardless. Thank God for a healthy Cob
Smokey (22h) : Is Mason Crosby's health OK ?
Smokey (23h) : What's in your Coffee ?
uffda udfa (18-Jan) : Sit Davante if he has a bad ankle. We remember 2015.
uffda udfa (18-Jan) : Davante is not going to practice until SAT at earliest.
uffda udfa (18-Jan) : Davante and Jordy may be inactive at ATL.
Smokey (18-Jan) : ROFL !!
