I feel confident that ONE (at least) of these guys is going to step up and be a player at OLB.

If you take the three guys we have, who imo can play, Matthews, Perry and Moses, we really only need one more backup. And I think at least one of these guys will show something. Probably Nate Palmer.

Excited about this position.

We're still not set at bookends, but at least the Packers aren't trying to pass off the Waldon/Zombo combination as adequate anymore, we now some real young talent at the position.

But Mulumba is an interesting player in his own right. Despite his limited sack production — 41/2 in his last two seasons — he might have untapped talent after starting the game so late in life.

I'm hoping for the best, but in terms of trying to find complimentary pass rushers, a part from Perry, we haven't changed anything when trying to find these guys.

Zombo, for instance, was the hottest UDFA in 2010.

So'oto the year after that.

Still not sure what Moses has done to proof to Nerd that he can play, but I'm not completely sold on him, either. Perry, I hope, can show why he was a 1st round pick last year and, in that case, a guy like Moses is a somewhat ok option as a back-up, but like Dakota said, we're nowhere close to being set at the position.

My template for pass rushers is the Giants DE/D-line. Have three guys with starting potential and rotate those, keep them fresh, with a fourth guy who's a high-end back-up.

The D-line (and OLB in a 3-4) might just be the most important position to have depth at on the entire team.

I can agree with that, but our "3-4" defensive line can still take a lot of heat off of the OLB's, especially guys like Datone Jones, Mike Neal, BJ Raji, Mike Daniels, and hopefully--one day--Jerel Worthy. I'm confident in Nick Perry's ability to rush the passer, even if the other parts of his game turn out to be average. Between CM3 and Perry, so long as the Packers can get some decent pressure from the inside defensive linemen, they will have a nice pass rush. Some more quality depth would obviously be a good thing, but guys like Moses, Palmer, et al. are likely to develop into OK backup options, and Desmond Bishop is a nice blitzing MLB.

I have great hopes for Andy Mulumba. He seems incredibly instinctive in snuffing out plays from the video I've seen. Granted, they are greatest hits reels, but he's got some great ones. I feel he will make the final roster, and he will contribute bigtime.

4.5 sacks over the last two years? And hasn't played in coverage?

I mean I know sacks aren't everything Matthews and Kampman both have had done sack years but been one of the leaders in pressures which are also important and lead to a head turn over rate those years (lots of INTs those years), but 2.25 sacks average over last two years of college is still disappointing.

Yes, but unlike Zombo, he has the physical skills, so the ceiling is there. He's a developmental prospect.

I said in the Palmer thread I have more hope for Mulumba than him. Ideally, Perry becomes something resembling that bookend with Matthews. Whether or not that happens, however, I hope Mulumba turns out to be the real deal. There's always benefit in a rotation, especially given the hamstring issue of Matthews.

Huh? What chu talkin bout, nerdmann?

If he has all the physical skills then why didn't he average 2.5 sacks during his last two years in college?
