Rob Demovsky said: GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers either believe in running back James Starks or think Eddie Lacy's concussion won't keep him out for very long.
Whatever the case, coach Mike McCarthy on Monday indicated that general manager Ted Thompson likely won't sign a running back this week after a concussion knocked Lacy out of Sunday's 38-20 victory over the Washington Redskins.
"We're putting together a game plan based on the people that are here," McCarthy said.

My concerns for the run game are not eased at all. Skins run D was not expected to be stellar to begin with. And The game being so out of hand running is expected.
My concerns will be eased when the oline can create holes for a good running game early and consistently in a game.

yep. face a team with a run defense and then let's talk about it.

It's all about our O Line and the run defense we are up against. Starks had some good holes; He didn't really have to cut or run to daylight. Lacy could have done the same; Franklin could probably have done the same, or Harris or Green if we still had them.
I suppose there are a lot of tougher run defense teams than the Redskins, but all of them will need to be in a "stop Aaron Rodgers" mode, so if our O Line can be even minimally effective, the holes should be there. If Lacy is gonna be an upgrade, it will be in the form of yards gained after contact - breaking tackles. I see hope of that in space, but he doesn't seem any better than anybody else when he is stood up at the line or in the backfield.

It was great to see 100+ on the ground for a change - something we haven't seen in some time. It should be noted that Washington got ran over in week 1 as well, so this isn't "proof" that this can be done on a weekly basis (although I hope so.) This will be a topic of discussion throughout the season for sure, and I hope to see more games with good balance like we saw Sunday. The thing that stuck out most to me was seeing off tackle running rather than trying to cram it up the gut every carry.
The OL did well opening things up - even if it was against D that has yet to stop the run well. If they can do this in the next game I will feel better about the ground game. On to Cinci!
