Childress left without handshake By Greg A. Bedard Tuesday, Sep 9 2008, 11:09 PM
Green Bay - Vikings coach Brad Childress exited Lambeau Field after Monday night's loss to the Packers without shaking Mike McCarthy's hand.
The state television pool feed showed McCarthy at midfield after the game. He looked around puzzled for a minute, apparently searching for Childress, and then McCarthy started to leave the field, shaking the hand of a Vikings assistant along the way.
McCarthy and Childress did exchange phone calls on Tuesday. McCarthy said there are no hard feelings on his part. Childress was tough to find because he was still talking to quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, who was upset over his late interception.
Still, he's highly unusual for a coach to skip the customary post-game handshake. Even Bill Belichick and estranged protege Eric Mangini have managed to press the flesh after games.
It's been no secret that the Vikings are upset over the tampering charges filed by the Packers during the Brett Favre saga. McCarthy also might have irked the Vikings last week with his answer to a question about some of the trash talking the Vikings did towards the Packers in the off-season.
"It speaks volumes about the way they go about their business," McCarthy said.
The Vikings and Packers meet again Nov. 9 in Minneapolis. |

Ooh, that last quote by McCarthy was a not-so-indirect jab at the head coach. No wonder Childress didn't shake hands. But of course, McCarthy was right. You don't hear too much trash talk coming from the Packers or most other teams. |

I heard from a Viking's insider that Childress feared for his life if he shook MM's hand. It's my understanding, that Childress believes Mike McCarthy is King Midas reincarnated due to his touch of gold with quarterbacks (and his smarmy smirks from across the field). You see, Childress has staked his job on a guy with measurables off the charts but he can't develop him, and Mike McCarthy comes waltzing up north and every quarterback he works with is successful. Childress, being a rational man, believes there's only one explanation for his own failure and MM's easy success: magic. And as a rational man, he'll be damned if he's gonna end up as a solid gold statue on the 50 yard line of Lambeau Field.
Childress also still believes in the tooth fairy.
Somebody please tell him. |

The writer is trying to fan the flames, that's all. It was more of an oversight than anything else. If Mike McCarthy understood, I think packer fans could too... |
"There's the snap, Rodgers with a quick drop - in trouble! AND SACKED BY ALLEN! The ball is lose, the ball is lose, and recovered by Kevin Williams! And that's the ball game! Childress and the Vikings FINALLY beat the Packers!" -- |

Chuck Norris doesn't go on the internet, he has every internet site stored in his memory. He refreshes webpages by blinking. |

The term man's man is misleading. The definition is actually closer to Alpha Male than what you thought it was. |
My man Donald Driver (thanks to Pack93z for the pic) 2010 will be seen as the beginning of the new Packers dynasty. |
