The 3-month-old son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant died Wednesday morning, coach Jon Gruden said.

Matthew Tryson Bryant apparently died in his sleep, Gruden said. The coach did not have further details. Matthew was born June 16.

"We're shocked and very saddened by this," Gruden said. It's just a horrible tragedy, and I can't explain it."

Gruden said he was not sure if Bryant will play in Sunday's game against Green Bay. The player's situation would be addressed later in the week, the coach said.

"The entire Buccaneer family is deeply saddened by this tragedy," Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen said in a statement. "The Bryants have been an inspiration to our entire community through their commitment to their family and their exhaustive efforts working with children and those in need in the Bay area. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and Melissa during this difficult time.''

Bryant, a seventh-year pro in his fourth season with Tampa Bay, kicked a winning field goal in overtime against Chicago last Sunday. Two years ago, he made the third-longest field goal in NFL history, a 62-yarder to beat Philadelphia.

worst thing that can happen to a parent.

Agreed...a parents worst nightmare. Tragic.

"Children are not supposed to die...Parents expect to see their children grow and mature. Ultimately, parents expect to die and leave their children behind...This is the natural course of life events, the life cycle continuing as it should. The loss of a child is the loss of innocence, the death of the most vulnerable and dependent. The death of a child signifies the loss of the future, of hopes and dreams, of new strength, and of perfection.

This space is with me all the time it seems. Sometimes the empty space is so real I can almost touch it. I can almost see it. It gets so big sometimes that I can't see anything else".
- Arnold and Gemma 1983

My thoughts and prayers to the Bryant family.

Just a devastating thing to happen, no parent should have to go through with this.

Smokey (15h) : Week 8, tough Pickem week .
Zero2Cool (21h) : Packers promote S Whitehead to active roster
Zero2Cool (22h) : If no one posts, what's the purpose of a forum? Don't ruin what we have. Contribute!
Zero2Cool (22h) : But you have posted shouts, therefore your rule has been broken. Get over it.
uffda udfa (22h) : :) Shouting isn't posting. A different vehicle. I said I don't post in season. I haven't for years. Will shout and chat, though.
beast (23h) : Walker can probably go on the PS still
beast (23h) : and 2 8ths of an inch
steveishere (23h) : would be fine with signing Walker to replace Barclay
Zero2Cool (23h) : Josh Walker (OL- Packers, who previously reached an injury settlement) is now 100% healthy and worked out for Packers today
Zero2Cool (23h) : Damn, Geronimo is 6'3"?

Zero2Cool (23h) : QB Joe Callahan to the Browns
beast (23h) : Is Zero arguing with himself again? ;) "linsley will take 53rd", "Don't think it will be Linsley"
uffda udfa (24-Oct) : Glad Dakota gets to see his guy on the 53. Geronimo!
Zero2Cool (24-Oct) : PackerReport says One spot to fill. Assume it will be a corner. Don't think it will be Linsley. Needs to get in football shape.
Zero2Cool (24-Oct) : Linsley will take 53rd spot. WR Allison just filled 52nd
beast (24-Oct) : Linsley and Callahan? (Just thinking out loud)
Zero2Cool (24-Oct) : Packers roster down to 51 ... bet they wait two weeks to get back to 53, or activate Corey Linsley.
Zero2Cool (24-Oct) : Can't get much more current than that, now can ya? BAHAHAHHAHAHA
Smokey (24-Oct) : As current as yesterday's Win . (Giants/Lions became 4-3 teams).
