The 3-month-old son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant died Wednesday morning, coach Jon Gruden said.

Matthew Tryson Bryant apparently died in his sleep, Gruden said. The coach did not have further details. Matthew was born June 16.

"We're shocked and very saddened by this," Gruden said. It's just a horrible tragedy, and I can't explain it."

Gruden said he was not sure if Bryant will play in Sunday's game against Green Bay. The player's situation would be addressed later in the week, the coach said.

"The entire Buccaneer family is deeply saddened by this tragedy," Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen said in a statement. "The Bryants have been an inspiration to our entire community through their commitment to their family and their exhaustive efforts working with children and those in need in the Bay area. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt and Melissa during this difficult time.''

Bryant, a seventh-year pro in his fourth season with Tampa Bay, kicked a winning field goal in overtime against Chicago last Sunday. Two years ago, he made the third-longest field goal in NFL history, a 62-yarder to beat Philadelphia.

Agreed...a parents worst nightmare. Tragic.

"Children are not supposed to die...Parents expect to see their children grow and mature. Ultimately, parents expect to die and leave their children behind...This is the natural course of life events, the life cycle continuing as it should. The loss of a child is the loss of innocence, the death of the most vulnerable and dependent. The death of a child signifies the loss of the future, of hopes and dreams, of new strength, and of perfection.

This space is with me all the time it seems. Sometimes the empty space is so real I can almost touch it. I can almost see it. It gets so big sometimes that I can't see anything else".
- Arnold and Gemma 1983

My thoughts and prayers to the Bryant family.

Just a devastating thing to happen, no parent should have to go through with this.

Zero2Cool (6h) : Falcons have officially placed DL Adrian Clayborn on IR
Zero2Cool (6h) : Why? What's the difference? Can you cook same meals with one?
hardrocker950 (6h) : Get a pressure cooker and your crock pot will collect dust lol
Zero2Cool (7h) : Bill Vinovich is our ref. You might remember him from 4th and 26.
Smokey (8h) : They were chicken livers, and they are fabulous . LOL
uffda udfa (8h) : Not if Matt Ryan puts up a 40 passer rating. :) The last two were unfavorable conditions. This is dome time.
Cheesey (8h) : Smokey, went to fire up the crock pot to slow cook some chicken gizzards, it burned out!
Zero2Cool (8h) : Aaron Rodgers' passer rating in his 4 career games at the Georgia Dome: 114.5, 136.8, 117.0, 125.5.
Zero2Cool (13h) : from Rob Reischel @robreischel
Zero2Cool (13h) : Rodgers has played in 2 NFC Championship games. QB ratings were 56.7 and 55.9. That's won't cut it Sunday
Porforis (13h) : Have to fill the 24/7 news cycle with something.
Smokey (13h) : True, Zero
Zero2Cool (13h) : Rodgers didn't draw it up, it was selected from options. Duh.
uffda udfa (15h) : Zeke Elliott tired of domestic violence investigation. NFL moving forward now.
Smokey (21h) : Did u fire up the crock pot ?
Smokey (21h) : Jolly good show ole chap ! LOL
Cheesey (21h) : Smokey! Darn spell check! LOL!
Cheesey (21h) : Hey smiley! Just saw your shout out! How bout them Packers!
Smokey (21h) : Hello Cheesey !
GoPack1984 (17-Jan) : I hope not. Please be something like 41-28 Packers.
uffda udfa (17-Jan) : I agree with Chmura. This looks like a double 40 burger.
uffda udfa (17-Jan) : The hug on the sidelines?
uffda udfa (17-Jan) : What seemed so emotional?
Zero2Cool (17-Jan) : No, but I am curious why that seemed so emotional. I might be reading into it too much.
uffda udfa (17-Jan) : Anyone ever get confused looking at Alex Van Pelt thinking it's MM?
uffda udfa (17-Jan) : I hope they aren't going to dial it down believing in destiny .
Zero2Cool (17-Jan) : Jason Wilde: Packers "feel like a team of destiny"
uffda udfa (16-Jan) : They'll need all the Julio Joneses they can get.
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Chmura: "I'll tell you this: Atlanta's going to score 40 points. They are. The #Packers are going to have to score 41."
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Damn-Falcons coach Dan Quinn tells reporters that WR Julio Jones (foot) will be limited this week but will be “ready to rock” on Sunday.
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Packers defense has a red zone INT in each of the last 3 games... Hyde with two of them. (One being the clutch 4thQ INT vs DET in Week 17)
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Randall Cobb, Damarious Randall, Quentin Rollins, James Starks, Clay Matthews, Ty Montgomery & Jared Cook. OUT
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Packers inactive list when they lost 33-32 to the Falcons week 8.
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : There is no emphasis, it's just a little bit of info. Take it or leave it. No harm.
Smokey (16-Jan) : Zero, I believe that you and some others place too much emphasis upon data. no harm intended.
