I've been doing a lot of testing and will be moving to a new host. I learned our server has 4,032 other websites hosted off of the same box.
GoDaddy has routinely told me there is no problem, even when I've posted proof (thanks Shawn and others) of the errors. They claim its my software, they are wrong. I installed two other CMS and experience the same instability and also timeouts. These were FRESH installs, no users other than myself, bare bone installs.
The instability, in my ignorant opinion lies with the host.
The goal ... I've been experimenting with several different CMS and hacks for said CMS.
Phase One - Copy backup of PackersHome.com to new host. Phase Two - Transfer load to new host for duration of 30 days in evaluation process. Phase Three - Begin designing theme on new CMS and add features.
Phase One/Two will be repeated until a satisfactory host is found. Current host is paid through April, 2010. |

Did a test install on the new host. Worked great, main functionality intact.
Creating full site backup of files not .wmv or .zip and exporting the database. |

Weird. When I click on the link for PackersBeta.com, my computer downloads an HTML document instead of taking me to the web page. |

Back home now so I'll be working on it some more. It is a beta site, therefore, errors should be expected. Files are all transferred, but I'm rebuilding the database now. I'll probably be up the next 4 - 6 hrs doing it. |

don't let those words discourage checking ... just saying to expect some errors until I notify it's ready for some heavy hitting. |

PackersBeta.com is online with the new host. You should have to log in fresh as this is a new 'site' with a new domain and separate cookie sessions. |

Moved the nameservers to the new host. Not sure how long it'll take, but once completed, PackersHome.com and PackersBeta.com will be pointing to the new host. |

PackersHome.com is now running off of our new host. We'll see how this goes. So far, I'm very impressed.
This page generated in 0.0671 seconds with 28 DB Queries in 0.0095 seconds
Previously, we were getting 0.821 seconds up to over 60 seconds!
new.PackersHome.com is the new site in progress. Which will take a lot of time. If it's done before opening '11 season, I'd be surprised. |

I'm with you, Julie. I have no idea how these things work, but it seems to be without its recent problems.
Great to see you back, Kevin. You do all this great work, and then we sometimes act like assholes. Okay, well, some of us act like assholes more than sometimes -- what can I say, I've been practicing my assholedom for 50+ plus years, it may be the only thing I'm reasonably good at. :)
Anyway, I hope it wasn't my whining about applause points several days back that pissed you off. It's been clear to me for some time that this site is a labor of love for you, so just keep doing whatever tinkering/major changes you want, whenever you want. And dust Achmed off whenever I -- or anyone else - get too bitchy for you.
I think I speak for most of us (and the rest can eff off :) ) in saying that you are entitled to tee off on us for any reason you see fit. We trust *your* judgment. |
None of the above. It wouldn't have been a wasted vote. Obama and Romney -- Those were the wasted votes. |

Thanks Wade, I'm surprised it was even noticed.
Glad to hear the site is doing better for others too.
I was nervous after I woke up (just a little a bit ago, was up til 5am working on the other design) to check the site fearing it'd be laggy.
Its very responsive now and that's killing my drive to continue forward on the other CMS design and features. It's a good 'problem' to have and hopefully this host maintains its snappiness. |
