Found the culprit.. when an article is at the top of the thread query.. it doesn't notify in the above table.. as soon as I posted in another thread and brought that to the top of the query.. announcement returned and the above scenario was resolved.

I think the article on the front page conversion isn't populating the proper table and leaving a null field in the DB that is used for the block.. but once the article gets a comment.. that field will be populated via the normal posting routine.. and it will be just fine.
I would look at the publish routine from the front page article that is being used to populate the thread table.. missing a field.

I hacked it up quite a bit and with moving to new software, gonna let this one slide. the Pro News module is about two versions behind, lol

Just to be clear.. I don't think PH.com is crappy.. I think like almost every solution on the face of this earth.. it has a glitch or two.
And as users.. we have been asked to notate issue.. that is all that was done in this case.
Just making sure my intentions were known and not swayed by Zero's humor.

Guess I'm bias, I know the code behind the scenes and in my opinion, it's crap.I can list off 10 issues with the site without blinking an eye or farting a gassy mess.
And it should be said, a lot of it was from my own doing. Even if there were software updates, I wouldn't be able to do, because of all the changes in code that I've done to try an speed things up, make things better, etc ... and if I had DOCUMENTED them, there wouldn't be an issue. But, I didn't really envision the site ever having more than a dozen or so members. lol
