When Ted Thompson drafted Harrell he had the chance to trade down to Clevland's second, which wasn't too much lower, and then pick up Clevland's first this year. Harell is a bust so far, we may have been able to get him with that second rd pick, and we could have gotten Rashard Mendenhall(or whoever) this year's with the first. But that's all hindsight.

What seems to contradict TT's value of drafts choice is that he didn't make the trade to pick up an extra pick that was also a high pick. Especially being in a building mode.

I wish we would have made that trade. What really hurts is the Cowgirls did. This has been on my mind since then and I'm just curious what others would have done. What do you think?

Denver was going to jump on harrell ( they picked 17th and Packers picked 16th ) and I have a feeling Ted Thompson knew that

You do what you needed to do AT THE TIME...

now does it look stupid? Possibly...

But at the time he was a projected top ten pick.....He had an injury that should have been a non issue after a few months.

No one knew he would injury him self this past year playing Wii.

Well if you look at Harrell's career thus far anything would have been better. I don't know if we should have made any trade but I do know I thought it was a reach when it happened. I just wish we would have gone with another player

You're going to get busts in the NFL, it's just how any draft works. You can't really complain about it because it really is a crap shoot. You don't know which players will pan out and which will fall on their face. The idea of drafting Harrell was a very good one, we wanted some young depth in the interior defensive line and we knew that we would lose some in free agency later that year. They were hoping Harrell would build his way up last season and be ready to kick it in to gear this season but it hasn't worked out well. You win some, you lose some.

One season doesn't make or break a player.. up until Harrell hurt himself in the weight room.. reports were favorable that he was progressing nicely.. to this point, yes it doesn't look great.. but cut the kid a little slack.

On the trade.. yes it seemed a little out of character for Ted not to pull the trigger on the deal with Cleveland.. but that is where I think they had enough value in Harrell to pull the trigger on him.. we gotta let this play out a bit longer.. in terms of a little Texas Hold'em.. we only have three cards on the table right now.. I'll wait for the turn and river cards before I throw my hand away.

Many like this.. injury brought his stock down.. otherwise alot of the scouting sites had him in the top 15.. roll the bones type pick on the kid a little cause of injury.. but not lacking talent.

Justin Harrell Scouting Report
Position: DT
School & Year/Status: Tennessee - Drafted
Height & Weight: 6'5 - 305 lbs.
Drafted 1.16 by GB

2007 NFL Draft Prospect - Scouting Report
Harrell's 2006 campaign at Tennessee was derailed just three games into the season by a ruptured biceps tendon, but his stock has been on a steady climb since the end of the season. Scouts love his toughness, as exemplified by the fact that after he ruptured the tendon against Air Force, he returned to the game and even played the next week against Florida. Harrell also benched a solid 31 reps at 225 pounds at his Pro Day on March 22. The 6-5, 305-pound defensive tackle is a beast against the run, but he does need to improve on rushing the quarterback. He does, however, have the strength to overpower offensive lineman and disrupt QBs by collapsing the pocket. Durability questions naturally surround him, as Harrell also missed time in 2003 and 2004. Still, Harrell is the third best defensive tackle in this draft class and he figures to come off the board late in round one or early in round two.

GoPack1984 (2h) : I hope not. Please be something like 41-28 Packers.
uffda udfa (2h) : I agree with Chmura. This looks like a double 40 burger.
uffda udfa (2h) : The hug on the sidelines?
uffda udfa (2h) : What seemed so emotional?
Zero2Cool (2h) : No, but I am curious why that seemed so emotional. I might be reading into it too much.
uffda udfa (2h) : Anyone ever get confused looking at Alex Van Pelt thinking it's MM?
uffda udfa (4h) : I hope they aren't going to dial it down believing in destiny .
Zero2Cool (4h) : Jason Wilde: Packers "feel like a team of destiny"
uffda udfa (6h) : They'll need all the Julio Joneses they can get.
Zero2Cool (7h) : Chmura: "I'll tell you this: Atlanta's going to score 40 points. They are. The #Packers are going to have to score 41."
Zero2Cool (12h) : Damn-Falcons coach Dan Quinn tells reporters that WR Julio Jones (foot) will be limited this week but will be “ready to rock” on Sunday.
Zero2Cool (12h) : Packers defense has a red zone INT in each of the last 3 games... Hyde with two of them. (One being the clutch 4thQ INT vs DET in Week 17)
Zero2Cool (13h) : Randall Cobb, Damarious Randall, Quentin Rollins, James Starks, Clay Matthews, Ty Montgomery & Jared Cook. OUT
Zero2Cool (13h) : Packers inactive list when they lost 33-32 to the Falcons week 8.
Zero2Cool (14h) : There is no emphasis, it's just a little bit of info. Take it or leave it. No harm.
Smokey (14h) : Zero, I believe that you and some others place too much emphasis upon data. no harm intended.
Zero2Cool (14h) : It’s the 1st time since 1970 all 4 conference championship teams finished the regular season on winning streaks of 4+ games
TheKanataThrilla (14h) : Salt mine. Love it.
TheKanataThrilla (14h) : The refs kept that game close. We should have blown them out early.

mi_keys (15h) : That whole forum is a salt mine. It's beautiful.
Zero2Cool (15h) : Burnett's back up, Kentrell Brice lead team in tackles.

Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Jordy has "legitimate hope" to play, per @RobDemovsky.
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Packers had one call on defense if called, no issue, wans't called. I didn't watch OL so dunno. I watched WR's
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Dallas OL had some holds weren't called and 2 defensive holds, not called.
uffda udfa (16-Jan) : I think the Pi vs just a holding call is a legit complaint. Terrible call.
GoPack1984 (16-Jan) : Dallas can't complain about the officials. They got away with so many defensive holding calls.
uffda udfa (16-Jan) : Dallas radio postgame: Dallas wins 7 out of 10 times.
uffda udfa (16-Jan) : Brice led Pack w/ 6 tackles including the hardest of the game.
uffda udfa (16-Jan) : Post game show said same thing. Everyone wondering how it didn't stay left.
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Tornado warning forces players, fans to stay put at AT&T Stadium
Zero2Cool (16-Jan) : Skip:More I see winning FG, more I see a very weird thing: It hooked hard left, then straightened out. Obviously no wind. Like meant to be
