It'd nice to have a running game that could consistently easily pick up 3rd and 1 3rd and 2. Being forced to pass in that situation can get annoying.

Would like to be able to say "3rd and 2 meh lets punch this in and get back to work" we are consistently stuffed in those situations.

Agreed. Huge issue.

The Packers were pretty effective running the ball. Grant averaged 4.2 per and Starks averaged 4.3. They just didn't run it very often.

The top 2 backs for the 49ers had the same averages as the top 2 for the Packers and they were considered a dominating running team.

The Packers running game was as effective as the 49ers but our passing game was phenomenal. So by comparison it looked fairly weak.

One thing that would make our running game look a lot better is if we had a passing game as bad as the 49ers.

I'll pass on that.

Sorry about the Pun, I couldn't resist.

The Packers running game was statistically as effective as the 49ers because everyone and their deceased grandma knew to fear the pass, not the run, thus making it less difficult for the Packers to run. Did you watch Aaron Rodgers last season? Seriously, who the hell is gonna give more credence to the run over him throwing it? lol

And he won't be playing for free, so what salary cost? Looking at his current contract, I just don't think it's worth the cash, nor the pick to have Marshawn Lynch on a Mike McCarthy offense with Aaron Rodgers in his prime. I like Lynch, just don't think the position ranks high in priorities for the Packers.

Quote:
3/4/2012: Signed a four-year, $31 million contract. The deal contains $17 million guaranteed, including a $6 milling signing bonus and all of Lynch's first- and second-year base salaries. Another $1 million is available through incentives in the final two years based on 1,500-yard rushing seasons.
2012: $4 million,
2013: $7 million,
2014: $5 million (+ $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses),
2015: $5.5 million (+ $2 million in per-game roster bonuses),
2016: Free Agent

Lynch was traded to the Seahawks - for a fourth-round pick in 2011 and a fifth-round pick in 2012 - on October 5 (2010)

GB's 2011 4th round pick went to Denver in a package with their 7th for Denver's 5th & 6th. GB selected DJ Williams and DJ Smith.
Gb's 2012 5th round pick was traded to NE and then traded back to GB. They selected Terrell Manning.

I see now what you're saying. You're probably right with the money we'll need for our players. Hope Green can stay healthy, I think he can be a very good back.

Rios39 is right.
It would be great to have a running game that could routinely pick up 3rd and 1.
Not HAVING to pass, but being able to use a fake handoff for a big gain would be sweet. But if the D doesn't respect the run, you can't fool them.

Bart Starr used to do that ALL the time. Play action on 3rd and one, and usually got a big gain.

Yeah imagine how good rodgers would have it when defenses are selling out to stop a consistent ground attack on 3rd and short situations. I find a lot of it is line play, we need to push the pile.

beast (9h) : I'm not sure if it's still true, but it used to be hard to get sacks on Eli because he'd toss one up when linemen got semi-close (which lead
Zero2Cool (9h) : Slam Eli a lot very early. Once rattled he can't regain composure.
beast (10h) : since slot WRs might be the Packers strength depth/talent wise
beast (10h) : With AR's passing % down field so low, I've been saying they should go with short passes like the Pats used to do, especially since slot WRs
beast (10h) : What's going to be needed against the Giants is OL and DBs (IMO)
Smokey (28-Sep) : Cook(TE) has time to heal, but may not be needed against NYG on Oct 9th .
Zero2Cool (27-Sep) : . Aaron Rodgers has a completion percentage of 33.3 on 10+ air yard passes this season (tied for the lowest in NFL).
Zero2Cool (27-Sep) : High-ankle sprain could sideline Cook
Zero2Cool (26-Sep) : Odell Beckham Jr, Dez Bryant, Alshon Jeffery and Julio Jones on tap for Packers. Yippie.
Cheesey (26-Sep) : Arnold Palmer was a class act all around. RIP
Smokey (26-Sep) : Rest in Peace Arnold Palmer, you blessed us all .

TheKanataThrilla (25-Sep) : Cleveland loses.
The_Green_Ninja (25-Sep) : I swear, Jacksonville's hot weather must be a huge advantage. Kept it super close with the Ravens
TheKanataThrilla (25-Sep) : Su'a Cravens with a big INT. A guy I wanted.
TheKanataThrilla (25-Sep) : Can Cleveland win?
Zero2Cool (25-Sep) : T.J. Lang said after one of Aaron Rodgers' TD passes the Packers quarterback head-butted Lang in excitement and said "I'm back."
