Shields made a key third down tackle against Frank Gore, a tough runner who significantly outweighs him. I give him credit for that.

Seemed like they were playing Bush on running downs, Shields on passing downs.

Actually, Gore ran that wrong. He went down instead of forward. I was watching the game with a bunch of football fans and we were all wondering why Gore didn't go forward and run at Shields.

Heck, at that angle, anyone could have tackled Gore. So no credit to Shields on that particular play. We got lucky Gore made a mental error when it should have been an easy first down for him.

That's Gore's problem.

Fact is, Shields didn't back down, he at least tried to make the play. And in fact, did.

Not a fan of either, but it's who we got eh? Shields is fast and Bush is like wannabe Woodson. It's just a let down to never really see any back up corner backs on this team step up.

Never? You mean like Tramon Williams never stepped up from being a back up?

Agreed Nerd. Gore messed up.

Shields though was in the right place at the right time. Any NFL DB could have made that tackle.

I was right about Bush vs Shields. Bush is a better tackler, Shields is a better pass defender.

"After starting at right cornerback Sunday against San Francisco, Jarrett Bush fell out of the defensive lineup. Sam Shields started in his place, and rookie Casey Hayward came in when the Packers went to their dime. The means the Packers had two rookies playing extensively in their secondary, including Jerron McMillian at safety in the nickel and dime."

Imagine that, more Sam Shields, better defensive play. Shocked!

Edit, wait, LESS Jarrett Bush, better defensive play. lol

Nothing against Bush...he just isn't built of the stuff which makes a good CB.

I looked carefully at a few plays where they had 3-4 WR set and Shields and Hayward covering out routes, whcih are difficult to cover easily and they did it perfectly. On a few of those plays cutler had time but the coverage down field was great. If Shields and Hayward play like that, getting house back and our safety play was amazing last night.

Bush just isn't good enough to start or play as a CB, I only accept him as a positionless special teams player

uffda udfa (12h) : Need some strong sharp passionate voices on D. Daniels gives great quotes.
uffda udfa (12h) : Nick Perry seems to be the team leader as he was giving pregame speeches that seemed very uninspiring.
uffda udfa (12h) : Morgan and his 14 wonderlic. Ever hear him talk? Man, not a bright guy at all.
uffda udfa (12h) : Burnett needs to be replaced. That's our leader? Or one of them? No, thanks.
beast (13h) : For the secondary, I think Burnett/Haha are the leaders.
Smokey (14h) : GB needs a new motto : DEFENSE RULES ! , is intended to change the direction of the Packers focus moving forward .
Smokey (14h) : Thank You Zero.
Zero2Cool (14h) : Great reading a thread and seeing "defense rules" spammed in them all. Great reading material.
Smokey (14h) : DEFENSE RULES !
Zero2Cool (15h) : Think you need to defensive leaders. Front Seven and Secondary. We seem to lack both. Daniels is closest.
beast (15h) : Packers players had a right to complain when they were being bullied by Mike Daniels... just talking about Packers ;-) jk
Zero2Cool (15h) : It was the 26th largest margin since 1940. Feels much worse
Zero2Cool (15h) : thought it was biggest margin of victory in Conf Championship, I was mistaken.

Smokey (22h) : It amazes me that you've remained in this forum for as long as you have.
Smokey (22h) : This is not your schoolyard to bully others, in fact I was that kid who stood up to the bully and kicked his ass.
Smokey (22h) : In the end the bully ended up in prison as everyone else grew up and moved on with their lives.
Smokey (22h) : I rate you with the hated schoolyard bully that tried to terrorize others to feel himself big.
Smokey (22h) : U2, it is obvious that you don't care if people like you or not. Well people don't.
