There is just so much a cerebral player can overcome when dealing with physically superior talent. No one is saying Saturday is a bad player, he is just physically outmatched out there or what I call light in the ass. There was a time though that he was the best in the business. Having EDS next to him instead of Lang just exposes this problem more.

Yeah, Saturday's just on the downside of his career.
For some reason the coaches think EDS has yet to hit his peak. lol

Personally don't think it is fair to use that game as a judgement on Bulaga's play as our entire offensive line sucked it up and the gameplan made it simple for the Seachickens to pin their ears back and not worry about the run. Bulaga has been a very consistent lineman for us and I still think he would be the better LT over Sherrod and Newhouse but is a much better duo with Sitton.
I think that is another thing some may overlook. How much does the RT benefit from the great play of Sitton?
Next year I'd roll with:
LT- Winner of Sherrod/Newhouse competition
LG- Lang
C- EDS
RG- Sitton
RT- Bulaga
And while we are on the topic of offensive line (we should just have one giant thread for any offensive line talk since so little of the PH population contributes to it

), this name needs to be put on the back of a Packers jersey next year. I will hope and pray every night that this guy is the highest on TT's draft board.
BARRETT JONESThis guy is a complete monster playing for Alabama. Starts his career at right guard as a redshirt freshmen and earns Freshmen All-American honors. His junior season he switches from guard to left tackle, was first-team All-SEC selection and wins the 2011 Outland Trophy (given to best o-lineman in college football). Now in his senior year because of injuries again, he switches from left tackle to center and wins the 2012 Remington Trophy (given to college football's best center).
Talk about a resumé. Plug him where you feel like on our offensive line. He has played and received high awards for both positions I think we are in need of (Sherrod is one big giant ?).

Sounds like a top 15 pick to me, and we won't get a sniff. I would love to see a high pick on an interior lineman though.

I know. I always have my "dream player" each year and since I saw some talking about the draft, I thought I'd insert his name into the talks. Offensive line should be our #1 pick this year...

No he's been fine. If you actually go back and watch film he's done what he's asked to. When he struggles it's with a big athletic guy that can get around him in one on ones. That happens all the time though to everyone. EDS just misses assignments completely.
Bulaga was BY FAR our worst Oline piece so far. Giving up something like 30 pressures compared to 7-10 pressures from Newhouse who actually goes up against superior talent and from Rodgers blindside. Lang, Saturday and Sitton were all very good with around 5-10 pressures given up. Ever notice the front side pressure Rodgers deals with? Once that happens he starts moving around and then can make lineman try to do more than the initial assignment so you see a few misses and assume the whole line got blown up.

Marshall Newhouse was drafted as a G which is why I plugged him into that spot. And if Sherrod goes down, I think it's less difficult for a LG to slide to LT than moving a LG to RT if Barclay were to go down.
Can Lang play center? Has he ever played center? Can he snap the ball at an NFL level and under NFL pressure? As well as shot gun snaps? Heck not all center can (T.J. McDonald and a couple of Romo's centers couldn't at times)... I don't know if Lang can or not... but I thought I read Sitton tweeter that the Packers are in trouble if he or Lang ever have to play Center (I think he was asked about it around the time Wells signed with the Rams) then again Sitton and Lang both joke around a lot.
BUT IF Lang can play Center at an NFL level... I really like the idea. I just don't know if he can... or if he has ever played at center.
I also think Newhouse was drafted to play G BUT IMO he doesn't have the power and/or proper technique in to bring the power in his upper body needed to battle with good DTs... he's rookie year he couldn't keep anyone out of his pads... he's improved a good bit since then, but his upper body technique is still pretty bad for generating power...

Land at C has been bandied about, but nothing has ever come of it that I know of.
I believe he may have backed up some in college.
Newhouse is too lanky to play on the inside.

I agree, but I've been surprised seeing him ranked as 3rd inside OL that could fall to the late 1st...
OG Chance Warmack, Alabama (teammate)
C/OG Jonathan Cooper, North Carolina
were the 2 guys ranked higher than him.

We need to stock up on the 'trenches' players this coming draft. Our pass rushers are nonexsistant except for Clay. Pickett is getting old, and he is not a great pass rusher. CJ Wilson you don't really hear his name often. Like Pickett he is really only known for run support. Worthy has potential but I don't see much of a push from him since the early season. I like Dainels, but to me he won't be anything more than a backup. I wouldn't mind drafting 2 more Offensive and Defensive Lineman in the next draft.

Daniels has done some work. I wouldn't discount his playing ability as he was already docked for being undersized. Anytime I see him in the game he is generating more pressure than our other defensive linemen.
Worthy has been "meh" so far. He was also a hot and cold player in college...he was either a beast or non-existent.
I agree that the OL and DL need some more beefing up this draft. 3rd option would be WR, depending on what happens with Jennings but that is for another thread and in the distant, distant future.

I don;t mind Daniels being a backup. You need solid backups to come in and spell the starters on a frequent basis. As we see injuries happen all the time. It is good when there is not a huge drop off in talent between the starter and his replacement.

JSOQuote:Nothing is final and a lot will depend on performances the next two days, but T.J. Lang appears headed back to his familiar left guard position.

Wade and I pick the talent on the O line from now on. No one else, including the Packers. They are all so fired.
lol
Hey Shawn- Why no mention of how you were told Lang was no tackle?
Oh, SNAP !
From now on, the minimum criteria:
From Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and certain other parts of the midwest.
315 lbs or greater.
Dad must have a history of being dirt-poor, or at least not owning a combine and unable to pay to have his crop harvested by the migrant combine-people.
Has never heard of the zone blocking scheme.

I think many are overlooking Lang's injury and the effect it has on him playing the edge this season.
But I would have no problem pulling at least one lineman a year from the Midwest.

Can he or can't he have man cleavage? I can't stand it when 320 lb tackle gets bull rushed by 260 lb DE/OLB because he is too weak to hold his ground.
