Statistically, that is untrue.

Penalties on Woodson since 2008 (all I have data on...boo!)
2008-4
2009-9
2010-12
2011-9
2012-4

I think ANY team would live with the few flags to have a Charles Woodson in their secondary. Any smart team anyhow.

That is only accepted penalties. He has had a bunch where the pass was still completed and penalty declined.

The cumulative number of penalties called on Charles Woodson that were declined or off-setting.

2012: 1
2011: 2
2010: 0
2009: 1
2008: 1

He's way above average at safety but that should be his position in base. He should only cover the slower TE types in dime or nickle at times. hayward basically took over the slot spot so I don't see that being a worry. Woodson is also a dangerous pass rusher so he will upgrade that area as well. If Dom uses him where he should be used then this is only a big upgrade.

Oh and QB's still have to watch out for where he is cause he can still get the picks.

Where do you get Hatred? I simply questioned why somebody says they are uncomfortable with his penalties when he has been known to be aggressive and get flagged because of it?

Actually, you said this ...

He has had a habit of getting holding, and illegal contact calls for his entire time in GB. It is how he has always played.

And when I posted the stats that prove otherwise, you added this ...

when in fact it has not been a bunch or even close to a bunch.

And we all know that kind of negative exaggeration comes from PURE HATRED, PURE HATRED I TELL YOU!!

The point of my original post was, why be uncomfortable now when what he does is what he has always done. Your numbers point it out as well. his best year DPOY he had 9, SB year he had 12, another 9, 07 he was flagged 12 times. this year before his injury, he was not on a pace out of the normal for him.

It was not, a negative. It is simply that it is Charles. Al Harris use to get called for his physicality also. How he plays is what makes him successful. why be uncomfortable with that.

Having both Woodson and Matthews on defense with a stronger defensive line makes this defense great. If all three levels of the defense has a playmaker, it'll allow Dom Capers to go crazy.

What we miss with Woodson is his Toughness and his williness to play everywhere except as a defensive lineman...

The more players you can move around the better. Did you see what they did with Matthews? 1 week back and he's all over the field making fucking plays. We brought back that stunt that worked well all season, and they worked it to perfection.

I can't imagine what Woody will be put into. One of the best blitzing DB in the league will be back on our team and will allow us to open our playbook even more. Can't wait!

I'm uncomfortable for his propensity for holding calls giving a free 5 yards and a first down. I'm also uncomfortable with him taking Hayward and House off the field. His only position should be strong safety in obvious run situations or as a blitzer. This is a game of speed and Wood is in the same boat as Urlacher. It will be really interesting if he is retained next year with his high cap number.

Sad, but true. On all counts.

It still a wonder on how he is going to be worked back in. How would you rank our Secondary overall.

When Woodson returns, our best 4 are Williams, Shields, Burnett and Woodson. Where it becomes tricky is who is better for the team, Hayward, House, Jennings and McMillian. If Jennings is better than Hayward, there isn't much of a question. On sub packages move Woodson to the slot and bring in Jennings for Safety. But if Hayward is our next best, do we want to have him on the pine except in dime situations, because that is what Woodson playing slot will do.

Actually, I think playing Wood at linebacker makes a lot of sense. It really depends on what team you are playing, and what kind of offensive package is on the field. What I don't want to ever see again is Woodsen running with the receivers, that is his ultimate weakness right now. Fortunately, it's Dom's job to use the pieces of his defense.

I would slide McMillian back to the deep spot and put Woody up in that spot near the LOS. I think our weakest link currently in the secondary is MD Jennings. And that is not even close. Also, I still am leery of Burnett back there.. seems to inconsistent for my tastes.

But I would run the base package, with the light in the box numbers Dom seems to run often, Shields, Burnett, McMillian, Williams, Woody. Dime would bring in Hayward.

My opinion, I think House morphs into that physical entity that Woodson has been in his career and becomes that close to the LOS corner/Nickel/Safety/Backer roaming entity.

Yeah, Woodson has that ability to play the hybrid LB/3rd Safety, and that is where I suspect he will be used. Hayward stays on the field. Loser on field may be any of Moses, Zombo, Walden.

And that is okay, because they each have some pretty glaring weaknesses in game. Particularly protecting the edge in run defense.

I think we should drop lbers instead of dlineman to go into coverage.

Rush Neal,Raji,Worthy,Matthews
Using Woodson and Burnett in MLB positions. Unless there is a RB, where Hawk or Jones can come in.
